Since my recent episode with my fuel pump shutting me down, I have pushed my plans for an emergency electric fuel-pump a little ahead of some of my other plans.

I intend to keep the mechanical pump as the primary fuel pump.

I want an electric pump, plumbed in and at the ready, for those occassions that the mechanical might fail, for whatever reason.

I also want to keep it simple, without a bunch of regulators, extra returns, etc., just a simple in-line pump that I can flip a switch and keep on rolling.

I am going to plumb it in the same fashion as this set-up:

:with the electric pump in a bypass loop, with a check-valve that prevents pressure from the piston-pump going back to the tanks.

I was thinking a pump such as this:

Considering the fact that the VE injection pump will draw enough fuel to run the engine and all the electric pump will need do is push enough through to cool/lube the VE, I really can't envision the need for an all-out hi-performance race-pump.

I just want something that will bring me back to the house.


What pump options will do the job I want??

I don't see any reason that wouldn't work for your purposes. A pump like the one you have shown there probably has a check on the outlet already, so no need to add one.

 

You can get those on eBay for less than half that price. Just make sure whatever you get will be compatible with diesel. Some of the cheap stuff could be made with butyl or silicone insides that will come apart after being in contact with diesel.
