There was a boat that burned while hooked to the mooring in town. It had a 4b in it. It got so hot it melted the compressor side off the turbo. It looked like drippy wax. It ruined the block and everything.

I would bring it home. The motor didn't get that hot. If you look at the little name plate on the valve covers, you will notice it is still there. So in my book it didn't get all that hot, just enough to melt the paint off the motor and other parts. If you want a good core truck I would be looking into that one right there.

Yea, but how much water did the fire department dump into the engine. I bought a burned Corvette from the owner twenty years ago. It set for about two months before the claims were paid. I saved the engine & transmission. The engine only had 10,000 miles on it but the rust in the cylinders required the block to be bore .060" [courtesy of the fire departments hose down]. Also keep in mind that last year I bought from a local autowrecker a 6BT engine from a 91 Dodge with 52,000 miles for $1200 delivered. Maybe I hit the jackpot on the engine? That is why I call the one on EPay crusher-fodder. The last burn down vehicle I bought was in 2000. It was a 99 Grand Marquis that I bought for parts. Closing price at that time on a car with a "driving retail value" of $25,000 was $300. Most burn downs usually only bring a few hundred dollars when bought back from the insurance company. I was lucky on the Marquis because the plastic on top of the engine melted down over the engine sealing it off from ingesting water. These are just my real world experiences. Your results and values may vary from mine.
