That is correct. I always called it a crow bar, but in firefighter training, they were very clear that a crow bar is straight, not lgbtq, and a wrecking bar is bent and possibly lgbtq, that is my understanding anyway ...Mark

 

Is there such a thing as a combination crow/wrecking bar? ... Never mind. My head is starting to hurt from thinking of the possibilities.

You may need to put the plugin into your browser that allows you to see the photobucket pics. A few years ago they all of a sudden held the pics hostage until you paid 400 buck or so to get them back. I apologize for resurrecting an old thread. My death wobble has gotten so bad I dare not drive the truck more than a mile from the house. Although the king pin and U-joint replacement is is a huge chore, I'm going to try it myself. A few questions before I begin:

1. From my reading it appears the most difficult part of the job may be the removal of the bearing races ("cups") in the lower kingpins. Is it okay to drive these out with a drift and large hammer? Any tips for their removal?
2. To remove the differential for replacement of the inner axle seals is it four steps only: a) pull both axles, b) remove the differential cover plate, c) remove the two bearing caps, and d) wiggle the differential out of the case. That is, I do not need to remove the front driveshaft?
3. Is the best way to remove the old seals simply to run a self-tapping screw in the metal seal frame and use the screw to pull the seal out of the tube?
4. Once I have replaced the seals do I simply reinsert the differential the way it came out? Do I need to worry about shims or something called "preload"?
5. My truck has 158,000 miles on the clock. It is likely I can get away without replacing the needle bearings in the spindle?
6. There was mention of an instructional DVD showing how to accomplish this chore. Can anyone tell me where I might purchase such a DVD? 4. Do you happen to sell a DVD with instructions on how this is done?
