oil out of dipstick
Hmmm first off how is his vent tube doing? the crank case is vented threw a open tube that dumps out by the started, that's where it should be venting!
finned the tube, check to see that this tube hasn't been pinched or some thing hasn't built a nest of some sort, plugging the vent!
How much oil is on the dip stick when the motor in not running?

truck runs like new, idle perfect, drives well,it leak oil out the main bearing i think
but very little about a quart 3000miles starts in the cold very well. no smoke, idle seems high compare to mine,

1 qt out the rear main seems like an awful lot,
my dipstick is very loose, and there is no oil coming from it,,, Seems to me like i will agree with the others,, Must be a blocked breather!
If not, there is some other issue!

Mine has done it a tad bit since I got about 5 years a go. I figured it was probably just some worn valve guides. Hasn't hurt anything yet to warrant spending money on it. My blow tube isn't plugged. I figured if it was worn rings (as I've seen on gassers) the blow by would be out of control by now and the oild would be full of crud and fuel.

The quart that is missing at oil change probably isn't all comeing out of the back. All diesels burn some oil until they get up to temp. That's why you need to stay on top of your service checks (not that I haven't neglected it). You also lose some in the blow-by.
I've only had one that DIDNT leak out the dipstick tube, and I've had 8 in the last 7 years. Mileage ranged from 139K to 400K+. I figured the little cheesy o-ring/gasket on the end of the dipstick just got hardened and leaked oil.
The crankcase will vent from any opening in the engine. Considering the vent is quite a bit higher than the dipstick opening, I'm not surprised it comes out there, esp when one considers that most blowby is produced with the downforce of the pistons, placing the majority of the blowby nearer the dipstick tube.
