Unhappy oh oh!! I Smell Fuel

I walked up to my truck and I smelled fuel. It never did that before. Took it home and looked under the truck and there was a little dripping going on. It was late so this morning I took it to the car wash and cleaned everything off so I could see where it was coming from.

Well it is wet from the lift pump down. Not sopping wet but damp. I tried to tighten the bolts for the lift pump but they were tight. It is only four years old (the lift pump) but I did run a few tanks of bio through it. It is leaking from the back of the lift pump down.

I guess it is the lift pump, what so you guys think.

If I need to replace it should I use a second gen lift pump?

What would you guys do.

Thanks

The bolts that hold the LP to the engine won't do anything for a leak of fuel. I assume you meant the fuel line fittings. Otherwise the LP is fairly easy to replace. Mine cost $85 for an AC.

What edwin said. Also, Is it coming down the block from the fuel heater? Could be a possibility.

The stock lift pump diapghragm may not be bio-compatible. Could be what took it out.

if it took out the diaphram you are going to want to check the oil for fuel mixed in with it...

I have seen these pumps with an extra seal on the pump shaft and vent holes so the leaking fuel just shoots out the vent and doesn't go into the crankcase. That doesn't mean you have this kind though.

Get a mirror and a flashlight and look at the pump while it's running and see if you see fuel shooting out.
