Thumbs up Oh man its a DUI checkpoint!

So I was going to work last night and I see a flashing sign ahead ,
"DUI Checkpoint/ Have your License ready"

Yes the person on the right was a bit tipsy book-um Dano.

So as all of the cars ahead of me are being merged down into 1 lane against the center median and 2 cars ahead of me try to escape by driving over the center median to me welcomed be several motorcycle cops I take out my license as 4 cars ahead of me stop next to 5 policemen stationed to on the center median to check if we were DUI and to check our license I am watching the policeman as he takes a step back and is checking out my truck, I hold up my license so he can see it and he says "Is this a diesel? (Thinking to myself now what is he going to say) “Man this is nice, what year is this, what engine do you have?” and I said its a 1991 and its a 5.9 Cummins, then he gets a grin on his face and says “Have a good night” and waves me to go on.

He never looked at my license, it was like he was in a daze or forced into some altered state by the smell of the diesel exhaust or maybe this was some new trick to check your LOC by trying to catch you off guard by being overly friendly and asking you about your car hoping you will mess up and tell him you were drinking.

Naw I think he was just a nice guy caught up by the sight if a nice piece of machinery and already knew I don't drink and would not risk my truck by driving without a license.

I said Thank You, good luck tonight and be safe as tipped a wave and I drove off.

Naw Jim none of the above. Your LIGHTS put him in a daze lol. No really your truck is extremely sharp looking. I ran off the road the other night to keep from hitting a drunk doing a U-turn on a divided hi-way going the wrong way. I slowed to about 15 mph when I saw this going on and got lucky no accidents occured, would have been po'ed if my ole 92 would have been hit. Need more of these check points.

Jim I'm sure if I saw your truck in person I would be in a daze too and wouldn't be able to take my eyes off it.

Yeah, especially around my neck of the woods.

We are still melting out from under the biggest snow-fall we have had since the 1970s.

One of the state highway workers was driving a salt/plow truck while somewhat inebriatted.

He somehow flipped off the salt hopper, landing it upside-down on the dotted white line of the West-bound side of Cumberland Parkway; obviously not knowing it was lost, he continued on his merry way.

The state troopers finally got after him, so he crossed the median, doing a U-turn, and now heading East.

He then crashed, into a tree I ??think?? .

Such behavior is typical for around here.

I have been in so many close calls with drunk drivers, in fact all of my accidents except for 1 was because they were drunk and this exactly why I have a big truck, I like having at least a 6000 pound advantage, I figure unless I get hit by a semi then I should be the winner and will be the one going home tonight.

Yes we defiantly do need more Sobriety Checkpoints around here and besides checking for Drivers License and proof of Insurance they should be checking for Citizenship and have some field test to see if they are competent enough to be driving in the first place and maybe even genetic testing.
I also think they should be able to set up a checkpoint down the street from a bar because there is a really good chance most of them would be over the limit but they tell me in is unconstitutional. I was talking to a CHP officer at out last meeting about the criteria for checkpoints and he said they even have to give motorist 1 route to escape before the checkpoint.

There are times when on my way home from work I will stop at the market to get milk and just before closing at 2:00 A.M. when all of the kids are in line buying beer and hard liquor with their under age friends in line with them either tweaking or wreaking of pot smoke and you know they are going to go somewhere in a parking lot or up in the mountains and get hammered and then drive home afterwards. I have also seen just as many older professional drunks as well.

There should be an interlock on all vehicles so if it detects even 1 PPM of alcohol, component of pot smoke, meth. or? In the vehicle, the car will not start and the OnStar like device will call the police.
Almost every week now here locally someone is killed or seriously injured by a DUI driver.

So you think I sound a little harsh?
Well yes I am, last year my older brother was killed by a drunk and stoned 22 year old driver fighting with his girlfriend as he T-boned my brothers car at full speed while on his way to work.

He was twice over the .08 limit and under the influence of pot but its ok because supposedly he had his medical marijuana card with him.

If you are going to drink or do drugs then stay at home and screw your head up as much as you like, but don’t try to drive and screw up the lives of entire families by your actions, he never even said he was sorry.
His My Space page was nicely decorated with marijuana leaves and brags of his drinking, drugs and going to raves.

Sorry guys yes I guess I do get a bit upset when I think of people drinking and driving so yes we need to have more Sobriety Checkpoints and this time don’t advertise them.

In my area, it would help if the cops and court officials were not the biggest drinkers of the community.

This is a "dry" county, and has been for probably seventy years, but that only exacerbates the problem.

Hardly a month goes by that one of our elected officials (or cops) doesn't get arrested for DUI in some other area; nothing ever seems to come of it.

Hey Bear Killer,
Where did you say you live, Hazard County?

We have been having a few sexual harassment and bribery charges against the police lately and just recently a couple of Sheriff committed suicide.

Marijuana will be legalized soon here and the authorities are going to have to figure out a level of intoxication. Heck,I attended a Neil Young concert a couple of years back and was not imbibing, but would have tested positive just by sitting next to a guy who was chain smoking some high grade. A DUI can be issued to anybody who fails the field sobriety test and tests positive for doctor prescribed drugs that adversely affect your coordination or thinking process. Ends up costing about $10-12,000 for your first DUI here.

Yeah, I see her all the time; she lives the next house up the road.

She's got her shorts in moth-***** right now, though, and wearing long-handles instead.

Every place that sells it in public needs to police it themselves. Camera's sobriety checks etc.

It is a bane on our country.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a drink, but to drink in excess is wrong.
Same with pot smoke. A little, at home, can be relaxing.
Nope I don't smoke it!!

A good friend of mine was hit in an accident, almost killed him, by a drunk. Guy was double the limit.
Guess what, 1 year later, same intersection same time of night and same two people, the same accident.
Why didn't theytake this drunk off the road the first time?
He had a drivers license, and was a friend to a judge.

Careful there BK. Not all of us are like that. Having worked in he only jail for 400 miles for nearly 10 years, I have only once seen someone with a badge come in for a DWI. Not saying cops and such don't drink but most of us call a cab, use a DD or stay at home.

Your area may be different but be carful about the generalizations.
