Odometer issues on 91

So my Odometer just quit working, speedo works ( most of the time). The truck only has 98k original miles on it so I really wanna keep up with everything!

is my odometer electrical or mechanical and what might be the culprit?

Its an early 91, non intercooled 727 auto

]Take it back apart and pull the armature of the odo motor out (just pulls out) and you will find it wet with petroleum jelly that the new .gears no longer need. Wipe every thing down clean . Make sure no broken teeth remain from the gears that fail. Take time and understand how they all mesh together and reassemble. Its tedious Mine took three tries to get right. Now works like a charm

Check where the vehicle speed sensor mounts on the transfer case and make sure it's tight and not loose or flopping around.
