Gee thanks

Sorry that wasn't meant to be short with you. 40 miles from home with a voltage meter showing low charge, CEL and no open parts stores. To top it off it is night time.

Luckily I made it home. Now to figure out what is going on. Was really weird. Left a restaurant and when I cranked the truck the CEL stayed on. Killed the truck and cranked it back up, no cel. Drove a few miles and stopped to gran some stuff from a CVS. Cranked the truck and cel stayed on. Killed the truck, waited a few minutes and cranked it back up. No CEL and all the gauges still looked good.

Drove about 15 miles, stopped for diesel and when I cranked the truck the CEL stayed on. Now I had a low voltage reading. CEL has stayed on since then. Funny thing was when I got back on the highway the voltage gauge came back up to normal and held there until I exited the highway.

Any ideas?

The gauges are very inaccurate check it with a volt meter and see if it charging or not.

Yeah, I no longer have a volt meter. Had a really nice Blue Point one but I didn't use it much. Buddy went to work as an avionics electrician and was admiring it one day so I gave it to him.

Of course now I need one and he is on a "date" and not able to come give me a hand.

The 41 code is alternator code. Could be a bad alt or a pcm issue or a bad connection. Could also be a bad asd relay but it is going to be hard to diagnose much with out a meter. You could try swapping the ac relay and the asd relay but your code 31 has to do with the ac so that relay may not be any good either.

Well the a/c was still blowing cold before I turned it off to save battery power.

I have a test light. Been researching old files. May try using a test light to see if I even have power at the alt. The gauge would bounce when using turn signals and such which makes me think it was at least trying to charge but I am not 100% on that.

Well my fancy shamcy battery charger can actually test alternators. It shows the alt is putting out 0%. Per the manual it does not mean its not putting out anything it just means it is not putting out enough power to make a difference in the state of the battery.
