nv4500 vs. getrag360

I may be buying a 97 5 speed for a everyday driver but i also have a 91 5 speed that im setting up as a pull truck , my thoughts are to swap the trannys. im going to have to mover the cross members make new mounts. my question is will the drives shafts still work?

If it's a 4x4 they should work. The 4500 is very close in length to the getrag.

Why do you want to swap the trannys? The Getrag should hold up fine in a 1st Gen pulling truck. Sounds like a lot of trouble for little to no improvement.

The output shafts are different and you will need to run an adapter to use the 205 t case behind the NV. Also keeping in mind that the diffs are opposit of each other from truck to truck. The 241DLD that should be in the 95 is drivers side drop and you need to use the 205 in the 1stgen for a pass side drop. Just my .02

This truck will be P-pumped with a 2nd gen ported head and so on and so forth . It wont fall under the tipical "1st gen pull truck" criteria

I would only be swaping the tans not the TCs.

500hp driving down the road ? OR 500hp being bounced, shook, and twisted with a sled staped behind it? No offence but there is a HUGE differnce . The reason that i will be puting an nv in the truck is because i plan to advertise my Drive Train buissness with it , that I am in the prosess of starting. I DON'T WANT TO BREAK i would rather do it right the first time

ive pulled a couple of times and seems to still be doing ok. but since you are taking away the ve than you should probably run the nv and get the upgraded shaft since you dont want to worry, also how much hp are you looking at having.it does seem like alot of work

I had the same problems about which one to run for pulling. After a week of calling and talking to people I decided to run the Getrag. I just ordered the South Bend 3600 DD 12 button clutch today. 10 out of 12 places I called to get price quotes from recommended me doing the NV4500 swap with the bigger input shaft.
Mine is getting the P-pump this winter and I hope the getrag will hold to 5-6 hundred horse power pulling.
I didnt want to spend 5-6 thousand with the swap and clutch as oppose to $1,600. If you want peace of mind do the swap. Upgrade the 5th gear nut too for Nv4500

if you could find out who makes them I would appreciate it,

I will look into the getrag alittle more and see what I come up with
