Hi
I recently bought a myself a diesel truck. It's a 1979 D200 Adventurer Club Cab lwb. The previous owner put a cummins and auto tranny out of a 93 Dodge into it. I bought this truck to pull my race car to the drag strip and haul a truck camper. I just got a Pyrometer and a boost guage for it. Today I finally got it hooked up to tmy car trailer and loaded a 92 3/4 Dodge truck on it so I could see how it would tow. I headed out of town along a stretch of highway with a few small hills on it. What I wanted to see was how high the boost and egt temps would be under a high load. Climbing a hill at 65 mph under full throttle it only produced 15 psi and got up to about 1150 degrees. The motor and tranny are all stock. Does this seem right? I thought it would be higher on both.

that sounds about right for a stock motor. the egts sound a little high for a stock motor, mine with the fuel turned up hits 1100 if im really flooring it, but thats just my truck, im sure others will put in on what they think, nice lookin truck by the way.
I was planning on doing a bit to it. I got the 3200 spring and I was thinking about a convertor for it.
I also have a tranny temp guage in it. What kind of temps should I expect doing this. The ambient temp today was 35 degrees f.
i have no idea whats normal on these trucks because i am new to them as well but i just wanted to say sweet truck!! id like to do this to a 78 dodge truck!! not that i dislike the 440 any but it would be awesome to have a ctd in an early gen d series like that...

On both of the pictured trucks, I think I am seeing TWO fuel caps on the bed-side.
Assuming this is factory, how did Dodge control the dual tanks, like Ford with an electric valve, or by a manual valve ??
Those older trucks really look nice.

Yes that is factory and there is an electric switching valve on the framerail on the passenger side of the truck controlled by a pull switch on the dash. my 78 also has dual tanks, a long driver side 15 gallon and a rear mount 20 gallon. id like to swap out the side tank for a late 80's 30 gal.
Yes it has an electric valve. It's odd but the previous owner didn't hook the lift pump up to both tanks. He bypassed the valve and hooked up just the front tank then he put a small fuel pump in the back tank to pump into the front one, wierd.
I was planning on changing back to the stock type set up with both tanks on the valve. Swapping the 30 gallon side tank in sounds cool though. Anyone here done this?Does goerend sell convertors for the 518?
Probably because electric fuel valves are pure junk.
I have had my share of experiences with them defaulting to OFF and running me out of fuel in busy intersections, etc., with absolutely no warning, which is why I will only ever have manual fuel-valves on my equipment.
I think it is real neat to see some of the different front-end treatments that Chrysler has used on this basically un-changed 1973-up body-style.
I think it would be neat to see a thread of pictures of as many variants as we can come up with; they also made Plymouths.

he can ship the stuff to a local tranny shop and the work can be done there or you can do it yourself.
Yes they do, I just got mine haven't had a chance to feel the difference between it and stock yet though (to cold to work and I don't have a garage). They run around $650 on average (unless you can find one on sale). Give Dave a call tell hom what you have and what you want and he will build the converter that will work the best for you.
