New fan clutch

I had my eye on an OEM fan clutch....well by the time I got around to ordering the thing, they're now out of them. My question has anyone had good luck with a Hayden fan clutch? If not can someone steer me to a good after market fan clutch?

I have thought about pinning the fan....however in traffic I don't think it will cool very well. You pro's let me know what you would do.

TIA, Tony

Tried a new napa clutch, didn't work as good as the old oem clutch. So i've got a new oem on order, they're on back order with a shipment supposed to be coming in this month sometime.

A pinned clutch will cool better then anything else in traffic.

Hmmm....I guess I was thinking there wouldn't be as much air flow! What are the disadvantages of a pinned clutch?

fuel mileage, it pulls harder and its always on, an oem isnt locked all the time, it will seriously hurt mileage

Theoretically yes, but really it depends, if you are mostly empty then yes it probably will hurt mpg's, however if you're mostly loaded/towing, then it probably won't since the fan will be turning most of the time anyways.

Well I sure don't want the mileage hurt. I found one at rockauto that is severe duty supposed to be OEM specs....that is what they told me when I called them. This one costs about 120.00

Thanks, Tony

My napa one was supposed to meet OEM specs also, but I can tell you that it don't.

Also the OEM one is $140 plus shipping.

I wonder if there is someone on here that has a pinned fan that knows how much it will hurt the mileage? 1 or 2 mpg I could live with anymore though I wouldn't be happy with.

I actually ordered one this morning. They sent me an email and told me they couldn't process my order. I called them to see what was up. They said they couldn't locate one from any dodge warehouse! I don't know if this is BULL or not. I do know locally my dealer can't get one right now.

I've pinned fan clutches before but not on our lil cummins. It will hurt your mileage some but not near what an overheated engine repair will cost. It will make alot more noise also because it's always on. But you won't run hot "unless" something else is wrong. I just guessing but probably a max of 2 mpg loss on fuel mileage if that. Good luck.
