Cool need turbo help

so i was driving around town boasting about the straight-pipe i just had done, i was leaving a friends hammer down and my exhaust pipe coming off the down pipe fell off- well i noticed that pipe is pretty well shot and needs to be replaced so i figure while i have it off i might as well upgrade the turbo

so here comes my question-truck is bone stock, i just ordered the asa air intake and would like to put a 12cm housing on as i will not be towing but 2 lawnmowers, i was looking through the classifieds and need an opinion- should i just get this 12cm wastegated housing or get the 12cm hx35 (i know it has alot more whistle which i think would be cool)

and would the hx bolt right up? without having to change the intercooler pipes?

its only a 60 dollar difference here are the links, please help me decide id rather get the exhaust and turbo done before i start adding fuel

ohh and the truck is a 5 speed

thanks justin

Well the turbo in the 2nd link is sold...

But justin, my advice would be to do whatever comes along first. there is lots of HX35's around... I'd search the 2nd gen classifieds and maybe ebay

The HX35/12 combo you may see a slight power increase and whistle but even the 12cm housing on your stock turbo would make it feel totally awesome because it'll spool up alot faster.

Because your fueling is stock i suppose you can wire the wastegate shut because you'll never overboost it with near stock fuel.

Your other question- Yes the HX35 will bolt right up to the intercooler piping, as for hooking up the stock exh. downpipe I'm not sure it will work because i think the hx is longer, but someone will chime in.

A good setup would be :

Asa intake
60mm compressor kit ($200)
16cm housing or smaller
4 inch downpipe and exhaust (pricey)

That'd be a pretty good increase in driveability/fun, maybe do some pump tweakage then to really unleash some power.

right now, b/c of getting the exhaust fixed im worried about the exhaust housing, if i got a 12 cm i would definately want a wastegate right? so would the one from the classifieds work or go new?

eventually id like to get the 60 mm, the asa intake should be in on wednesday, also eventually coolertubz

i'd go with a hx35 because of the mwe slot, but if you keep your h1c the 16 would work fine and you dont need a wastegate.

the 12cm housing will fit you just have to move the DP back and inch

you need one with a v-band on the exhaust then it hooks up just like the stock exhaust.

the hx35 does not need 4", even when you have a turbo that has a 3" outlet, a 4' downpipe is an upgrade for better spool and lower egt's

I think you should just buy a non-wastegated 16cm housing. you'll love it over stock and it WILL bolt RIGHT up to the factory downpipe

Justin,
make sure that you tie the lawn mowers down really well.

Well the 14 non gated, you may overspeed that with some pump tweaks like a 12,

I'd just get the 16cm, can't go wrong, it'll be 100x better than now with the asa intake

oilcan64 do you have a welder? Can you weld with a torch? I built my 4'' down pipe from 2 90s and a joint of 4'' muffler pipe. It takes a little time and effort but it's do-able. I just finished my 4'' turbo to my 6'' stacks yesterday. It took me and a hand about 6 total hours to do it. Good luck with it.
