need help with radiator/shroud mounting
Hey guys I need a little help here with pics. I am trying to install my new radiator that I bought for an intercooled truck. My early 91 did not have that. I already bought the correct radiator and managed to find the mounts needed, but I have no idea how this stuff goes together. I know my rad support does not have the mounting holes needed so I need a few pics of the radiator mounting. Also do not know what the radiator sets down onto on the bottom?? , fan shround mounting would help also. I looked throuogh a ton of pics on ebay of 92 and 93 for sale but none show any good pics looking into the shroud area. Please send some pics to me at dbcrossy@verizon.net. Thanx for ANY help. , crossy

I can't help with pics right now. For the bottom, you're gonna need to get a couple sections of steel about 1/8"(or thinner)x1 1/2"x 3" You'll have to braze a ring in the center for your rubber bumpers. I cut two pieces off a 1" pipe coupling about 1/2" thick for the rings. To set the radiator lower for a little more hood clearance, I trimmed off the end of the rubber bumpers about 1/2" so the metal peg sticks out, and drilled a hole in the center of the rings that were brazed so they can pass through, you'll need to drill the frame too when the mounts are in place. You also need to drill a hole on each side of the ring to bolt these new mounts to the frame. Lining everything up is a bit of a pain, it's been a long time, I don't remember any special tricks. You need to get a rotary tool and metal blade end trim some of the folds away from the radiator support air passages where they'll hit the new radiator. Also probably 4-6 inches needs to be cut from the top support where the old radiator mounted to clear the "wing" mounts of the new radiator. The rotary tool will also work great for trimming away edges of the shroud until you get it to fit tight. You're gonna need the later goose neck that turns with the later style top, radiator hose. Your bottom hose should work, but might as well put a new one on. I got mine at NAPA, and it included the spring for the inside. Don't lose your old spring "just-in-case". This will work with your current fan mount, but you'll want the later, shorter mount. the fan will almost touch. I didn't get one and when my rear diff locked, there was enough flex up front the fan caught the radiator. I don't have part numbers, the papers I had for the swap got wet and ruined. Good luck.
i looked at doing this also.(mine got real warm yesterday pulling my dump trailer). looks like it might be easier to have the upper tank on the radiator flopped to the other side, then u dont have any of the mounting issues.
My early 91 came with the big radiator when I got it, and apparently a previous owner had taken the new, bigger radiator and had the old mounting brackets put on the sides of the tanks. Worked just fine till the fan bearing took a dump, and took the radiator with it.
