The smoke white white/grey when we were messing with it getting it to run and idle, but at high rpms it bogged down and thick white smoke came out. What does white smoke mean?

Start at the air filter and work towards the engine

On my old toyota I had the line going into the fuelfilter clogged up, changed the filter and still wouldn´t run right, that could be it.

I would take the fuelline apart, or just replace the whole thing, that way you´re sure that´s not it, and it´s easy to do.

I agree the price is a bit much for just guessing and replacing parts without reason. Find out exactly what they installed for injectors.

How about running fuel out of a small jug with a short hose straight to the lift pump to see if it runs better , that way it bypasses all the other hoses, valves and filters. If it runs then work back to the tank, if not then go towards the fuel pump.
