Need Help

Some of you may remember me having a problem with truck not wanting to pull.Runs super strong empty but put a load behind it and it is a dog.Had the tranny serviced and mechanic said everything looked good. Some said check for an air leak.I cant find anything. Then I blew an oring on the power screw.Thought this was the fix.Still a dog. Here is the thing I'm trying to sell this truck and even have a friend who wants it if I can get this fixed.I turned the pump back down tonight. This seemed like it helped. Was I making to much power? or pushing to much fuel at it?When you pull a hill with a load it sounded like it was making power just not laying down.I just don't understand for it to be such a good running truck untill weight is added to it.Any clue?

Check to see if the pin that rides on the fuel pin is stuck. With the fuel pin(AFC pin) removed, it should pop out when you open the throttle. If not, it is most likely stuck and will not allow full fuel.

If it runs fast empty, but wont pull a load to save its neck, I'd suspect a worn torque convertor or other auto internals. I dont notice much difference if the load is under 5klbs, unless I look at my gauges, or have a trailer that is set up poorly. With the flatbed I have an added 1500# (over mom's identical p/u bed truck) anyway.

Check the AFC guide pin for proper travel first, though- easier and cheaper.

Okay I checked the pin.It popped out but it was nasty in there.Cleaned it up and lubed it.Pops out a ton better and seemed a little quicker to pop out too.I broke one of those plastic caps on the rod between the cable and inj pump .I'm off to find one.Hope I can find one to see if this fixed it.My luck it didn't.
Thanks T8

there should be a pic in my gallery of the end kit from dodge. it was only $10 if i remember correctly. however both ends are regular threat, so you may need to find a section of 6x1 threaded rod.

Thanks. The dodge place had some recall parts that had 2 metal heads on them. They even gave to me .The truck seems more peppy now that the pump is back to stock and that pin is lubed up.I'll try to pull the camper tomorrow.

How are you checking your automatic transmission fluid? There were some discussion on checking the fluid. It was low power under load and the problem was they were checking the fluid in park. The say the pump does not run in park but does in nuetral so you need to check your fluid in nuetral. The tranny will be under filled if you check it in park. I don't know as mine is a standard but I thought it may be worth checking out.

Pulled the camper some better.Still seems like it is laboring to much pulling hills.I thought I had the pump back to stock.Noticed fuel screw needed 2 more turns still.Done that maybe it will help.I cant win for losing though.Noticed on test run a strange odor.Leaking fluid from top of steering boxs and around I think oil lines to cooler by raditor?I will replace the oil lines?Do I have to rebuild steering box or is there sometype of seal to replace?

I haven't seen anything posted here about what kind of gear ratio you're running? Too high of gears and real tall tires and it isn't going to pull worth a hoot, no matter what.
