I have done a few so far and I use the Napa fan clutch removal tool for the nut and a large (6-8" jaw) adjustable plier to hold the fan pulley.
I use an impact when I can and zip the 6 bolts right out of the fan pulley and pulley mount.

Here's a method thst works good:
Find a cheap wrench that fits the clutch. Cut a piece about 5" off the open end. Use the air hammer to drive the stubby wrench. Will get even the most stubborn one loose.

Lisle tools sells a kit like it:

I know it's an expensive set, but you can use the idea on a 5$ HF wrench.

also if your going to remove the fan, witch is alot easyer then you guys are making it sound, get a vise grip (the original type) that has the chain on it, put it on the pully get a wrench and put it on the nut and beat on the wrench with a hammer, it will come off very easly

also put carboard between the rad and fan so that when the fan falls it doesnt puncure the rad

now comes the crank pulley

Fan, clutch are out. Any tips on the 4 cranshaft pulley bolts? Dave(Wanna) cleared things up on the bolt thread direction, now how do you keep the pulley from turning when trying to turn the ratchet counterclockwise(lefty loosey)? Again, I still have the drive belt on. I do have the barring tool, but that would mean 2 people, and I am solo. Let me know

Just stick the barring tool in the hole with a breaker bar on it. There's so much mechanical advantage that alone is usually enough to hold the crank - but it'll definitely stop when the breaker bar hits the frame.

I put the wrench a little past 90* (about 100-110*) to the right of the bolt and gave it a sharp rap with a hammer upwards. So if the bolt is at 0* (top of the pulley) the wrench would be about the 5 o'clock position. Savy?

That is how I got mine off with out a barring tool AND the engine was out of the truck.

I forgot to mention that after I remove the fan but before the pulley, I break loose the damper bolts. The extra tension of the belt helps of course.

A 2nd gen fan is harder to get out.
I can literally from start to finish have the fan clutch out in about 1 1/2 minutes.
When you put the fan clutch on with belt installed, you only need to tighten until belt slips on the pulley. It cannot loosen up; it will only get tighter over time.

Geeze. Sounds like yours was a pain in the butt to get off. When i did mine it took about an hour from start to finish. Everything came off so easy. Guess I was just lucky.

if you havent done the balencer yet just get a chizle and tap all around it, from top and bottom, they come of easy and i have never damage the case or cover doing it that way, the 4 bolts will be a little tough but nothing a good breaker bar cant handle, and if the saft spins put a 4 foot pipe wrench on it, it ant movin

I used a pipe wrench on the pulley itself, and just an 18" breaker bar on the nuts.
