nasty screach/wistle noise.... help!
Hey guys, my truck decided to start making this nasty screaching/wistle noise the other day on the way to town. I stepped on the brakes and it went away. Didn’t do it for a few days. Now, it is doing it all the time, and it’s very loud and very annoying. But the weird thing is all I have to do is lightly press the brake pedal and it goes away. For some reason it wont do it when it is idling, in park or neutral. I also jacked up the back end and started it, and drove the truck and couldn’t get it to do it. But as soon as I took off down the road it started again.
Please help!

It really sounds like it is coming from the front. I also drove over a few bridges and it "echoed" off of them.
The front brake thing makes sence, but I would think that it wouldnt be so intermidant. I jacked it up and ran the back end... I doubt its a u-joint or anything like that, because it didnt make any noise.

You may just have a small rock stuck between the rotor and the dust cover or the caliper area somewhere, my fords used to get one all the time just have to take the wheels off and look around with a rubber mallet.

remove the front calipers and if the brakes are still good, look for uneven ware between the iner and outer shoe....sorry BRAKE FRONT PADS!! (One pad is wore out and the eter look new) if thay are, make shore that the sliding pin of the caliper will move with you hand. If not i would replace the caliper/s but if you clean all the rust off of the pin and clean with brake cleaner, and grease(As was mention below you will be fine!
With that said i still vote for somthing geting wedged in there some ware!
Final note: if the bearings were bad in the front or back casuing the wheel two tip(allso just way loose bearings)could cause a noise also
