mystery button???

I have a small momentary button switch mounted on the dash down near the hood release. I don't know what it's for but since I have a detroit locker and the truck had a gooseneck, I was thinking it could be for a locking converter.

So, is this the type of switch that's used for that? Would the wires go right in where the converter is?

Is there anything else the switch might be for?

Thanks!

The only way to know what it does is start following the wires. If it was for a converter it would not be momentary. And are trucks dont have locking tc unless someone swapped trannys.

So you cant put a locking TC in the 518? I didn't realize you had to change transmissions to use one.

Could it be the Valet switch for your alarm system?

Beats me, but that reminds me of another question. I'm assuming the alarm was stock on the LEs right? OK, so how do you turn that freakin thing off? I've never had/wanted an alarm so I keep forgetting and setting it off myself.

I'll just chase the mystery button wires and try to see where they go.

What kind of trans do you need for a locker?

Sorry for my ignorance, I'm finding the cure a little each day.

An alarm was not factory installed on these trucks. My goerend is not a lock up but it is much much tighter than a stock converter. You have to swap to a 47rh to get lock up and there is a bunch of other things that need changed when you do that swap. You need the engine adapter plate and starter from a second gen plus the drive shaft needs to be shortened usually plus some other things I have forgotten.

Do you have dual batteries? My truck had and momentary switch as well and i found it is for a solenoid to connect the second battery for cold starts.

Could be for the Intake Grid heaters if the factory circuit for them is bad or something

could be a courtesy "thank you" button for towing. someone lets you in you tap the button a few times, makes the running/brake lights blink. kinda hard to say thanks with a wave while towing lol

You guys are funny.

Here I am clicking on "mystery button" thinking that I missed something and all the time it was for the ejection seat on the passenger side.

Now why couldn't I have owned this truck when I was married to my first wife ?
