My Vacation with the 1st Gen.
Funny you mention, we did decide this is our last big trip before kids. We do do short range desert trips with a friend and their kids but they don't take off across the country like this.
Couple of days ago we spent 10 hours inside Yellowstone and only saw the western side. Started at the South Gate and went all the way to Mammoth Hot Springs and we even drove 8 more miles just to say we've been to Montana! Lol
Thankfully the park wasn't super packed and we got a early start too. Will be going back on Tuesday to finish the East side of the park.
Today we drove up on top of Signal Moutnain which overlooks the hole in the mountains that makes it Jackson Hole. Of course the only pic opportunity with the truck looks north-ish back towards Yellowstone.

Drove into Jackson and had dinner at a place called The Gun Barrel.
We were in the parking lot waiting for our table and a gentleman walked by and asked if I drove that old Dodge all the way from California? I replied, Sure did with a Toy Hauler in tow the entire way.
Tomorrow at 0 dark 30 were leaving for Yellowstone round 2. This time we will see the east side of the park and hit up the gift shops.

Awesome pics. I need to take a roadtrip west.
Today we drove most of the east side except for the Yellowstone lake area.
I saw one other 1st gen up in the mountains near Roosevelt's Lodge. Was a good looking white club cab 4x4.
Put about 300 miles total on the truck inside the park and tomorrow were pre packing to start our trip home one Thursday. Have to check lots of lug nuts and air pressures too.
This pic is taken at about 7,500 somewhere south of Rosevelts at a rest stop.

I took a trip out west in my 2nd gen when I graduated. It was great! I'd love to do it again sometime. All of your pics made me think about it. Thanks for posting them. Looks like a great time!
It is with great sadness we realise it is now time to go home.
We saw 13 bears with most of them being grizzly, hundreds of bison, dozens of elk and four bald eagles.
Home is 1044 miles from Colter Bay and we will make it in two days with our stop being and Cedar City Utah.
For now it's time to take down the dog pen and hit the road!

I hate the last day, some of the pics don't show up on my work computer so I will check back in after dark.
It looks like you guys had a great time, everything your eyes seen will be in your memory forever.
A small story about taking vacations.
When I was 12 and my sis was 15 my Dad and Mom took us on a 32 day big loop out west from southern IL, we hit
Devels tower
Rushmore
Badlands
Cody
Yellowstone NP
Tetons NP
Olimpic NP
Redwoods
Golden gate NP
Yosemite NP
Sequoia NP
Big Sur
Disney CA.
Zoo in SF
Four corners
Mesa Verde
Crand canyon NP
Monument Valley
Rocky Mountain NP
When I got married and had my 2 kids I did the same thing with them only added some more parks.
We also took them camping, backpacking, kayaking, 3-4 times a year local and at least 1 time a year a week long Smoky Mountain trip.
Now that they are gone my wife and I have started going back to the parks and places we really liked from the trip, last year was our 30th aniv and we went back to Yosemite, Sequoia, Zion, Brice, and up through the middle of Colorado on 550, the next big trip will be back to Mt Rainier.
My kids have already started taking there kids camping and on vacations, I am thankfull to my folks for getting me off the farm and showing me the country and I hope my kids and grandkids are the same.
we usually spend 1,000-3,000 a year on vacations and my friends think we are nuts. but they have never seen Yosemite falls, or looked into the Grand canyon, or watched and smelled Old Fathfull go off, or sit on Mt Mitchell and smelled the balsam trees, or been on Mt Evans in July when it's snowing, or Sanibel Island Florida in Feb with your feet in the Gulf looking through sea shells.
If you can't tell I love to travel and see my country and the State and National Parks.
If you have a wonderlust at all then do it, you can camp and fix your own meals and travel on a tight budget if you want to bad enough.
