Unhappy More voltage crap...

Didn't wanna hijack the other thread, so I'd start this one. In the past, it has done this to me twice, peg the volt meter high, check it w/ voltmeter and get 18.5V. Hasn't done it in a long time until tonight. Driving home, voltage started oscillating, lights flashing like a cop car, then it decided to stop that and just go up on the high peg. Got home and wiggled voltage regulator and lights would again dim and get bright a lot. Tried running a ground wire from VR to engine block. Didn't make a difference. I'm kinda confused. Almost seems like a bad connection somewhere, but is this a sign of a VR going bad? Kinda need to fix this before I can drive it again. Played some in driveway tonight, and after shutting truck off, I could hear the battery sizzling. 14.2V on the battery with truck off...not good. I appreciate the help. Hopefully I can get it going again. Just got the 'ol Getrag rebuilt, shifts like new, new South Bend clutch in, trying to break it in now...thanks again,

Brian

the voltage reg controls the voltage by the ground, if it has a good ground and over charging and pumping out to much its the bad boy, they arent to high not much else can cause it.

agreed...go out and get you a couple VR's--one for behind the seat when this one invariably takes a dump. Could have been a questionable ground that sent this one on its way out, so just be sure to use a decent ground strap when you install the new VR.
