Mirrors?
Mirrors?
Ever since I got my truck I've been wondering exactly why baleing wire was strecthed between the wing windows and the mirrors... (Look really hard at the pictures in my gallery.)
Anyways, I took the wire off, and now when ever I go faster than 75 miles per hour the mirrors collapse back to the point that I can't even see behind me.
Anybody else have this problem? Anybody know where I can get some replacements or how to fix them?
Thanks... It's hard to drive without mirrors...

Put the baling wire back.

Ok, this is so easy you can do it in 5 minutes. At the bottom of the chrome bezel on the door there's a screw (T20). Pull out that screw and you can lift the bezel up and out. You will see a clamp that holds the mirror arm to the bracket. Tighten the bolts on the clamp a little and you're all set. Make sure you can still move the mirror when you are done, otherwise if somebody bumps it walking by they might break it off or tear the mounting holes in the door.
My truck came with elect mirrors and the previous had replaced them with mirrors that had longer arms. They kept swinging back toward the truck.
I got the elect mirror with the truck
I wanted the elect mirrors back on, In doing so I found how easy it was to adjust the tension on the mirror. Like the elect ones better though.

Seriously, if, when you pop off the covers, you find that you can't tighten them enough to keep them from moving, try slipping a piece of tire inner-tube between the mirror arm and the clamp. I had to do that on a set of aftermarket mirrors on a van that I had.
Well, I finally fixed the problem... Before the previous owner "fixed" the mirrors with JB weld around the grommet on top of the bezel and with teflon jammed into the clamp...
I took your advice and wrapped the mirror in tire intertube before I stuck it in the clamp... It wiggles under "high" speed now, but at least it doesn't slide back.
So thank you Valve and Wanna.
And how do you get a new bezel? One of mine's got bubbly plastic...
