Im getting ready to do this swap, I have found 2 different pumps and im not sure which one to go with, the cummins pump part#4988751 is 186.61, and I found another one from Ofi that is part number hfp702 for 64.43. What is the difference between the the 2? I found both these part numbers from searching through the forum

From what research I did before I went with the piston pump is that the Delphi HFP-702 actually runs under 10psi at idle, IIRC. The Cummins pump runs anywhere between 15-17psi at idle. I'd prefer (and I'm glad I went with Cummins instead of the cheaper pump) to have higher pressure knowing it'll take a little more to pull pressure down in a WOT run.

 

Interesting I figured there was some sort of reason that it was much cheaper, I think I will go with the extra money and get the good the cummins one. I just did not want to buy the expensive one if the cheap one was the same thing. Thanks for the help. But I guess if someone wanted to go the cheaper route the delphi would still probably be better than the stock lp

Diesel Auto Power sells the whole kit with the Delphi pump for 270. It is a rip off because of how cheap the Delphi pump is to buy stand alone! For that price I *assumed* that I'd be getting a carter/cummings pump. Silly me.

I priced out the cummins / carter at the local place here and it was over 250 now.

 

I was looking at that on diesel auto power. I did not realize it was the delphi pump that came with it. That's a big rip of, that pump is only 65 bucks on ofi website. And the rest of the cummins stuff is only about 55 bucks so you could do the whole thing for around 120 plus shipping. I just don't know if I trust that pump compared to the cummins pump

Actually, the specs on the Delphi pump put it close to the stock diaphragm lift pump. Stock pump is 3-5psi at idle and IIRC, the Delphi pump was around 4-7psi at idle. Not much of an upgrade if any at all. I prefer spending the extra just for genuine Cummins parts.

 

For stock I prefer the Delphi over all other lift pumps. Simply because you don't NEED the extra PSI and it is easy on the VE seals. And it has obvious advantages over the diapragm pump that can rip and spill fuel into the crank case.

BUT I don't prefer throwing 150 dollars in the trash with the Diesel Auto Power kit!

True. If you're in a pinch and need a pump, the Delphi would suffice. For a nearly stock motor/VE, it'd work just fine in that sense too.
