Smart move... Right tool for the job.. The newer trucks have higher ratings and you won't be dealing with 20 yr old equipment.

Yeah, I agree new and not owned equip is best for this particular move, I still might pick-up this 1st gen just because its manual for fun and other projects. I got 3 2nd gen 95, 01 & 02, but they are all auto.

In Maine the law has nothing to do with the factory weight tag. It has to do with the ratings of the tires. ( tire width ) Put dual wheels on a pick up and the limit goes up as long as you increase your registered weight. We even just did away with axle weight limits. Before you could be under gross weight but if you had one axle over weight then you were in trouble. A local guy in town has a 1 ton and a 2 axle boat transport trailer and he is registered for 33 thousand pounds. He hauls my 32 foot long 12 foot wide glass lobster boat.
