Linkage Questions

I had the top off my pump today doing some maintenance and when I got it all back together I was looking at my linkages the TV cable to be exact and I noticed that when I opened the bell crank to WOT and let it return to idle position that the TV cable did not return to its resting position, but stopped around 3/4 throttle.

Now for the question, when the throttle position is back to low RPM's like below 1/3 throttle what is this doing to my transmission thinking it is at 3/4 position?

What is it doing to my line pressure?

The cable moves freely if you pull it back to rest, I am going to install a heavier return spring.

Throttle at WOT.

To WOT and then back to rest.

If I tug on spring it will return to rest position.

Just wondering.

if your bell crank down at the trans is also hanging up then yes your are getting increased line pressure at rest. Is the return spring down at the transmission end of things hooked up too?

I have not yet looked under the truck yet, is there a spring on the transmission side of the cable?

I literally have a fleet of these trucks and none of them have a return spring on the trans side of the truck. The later trucks '94 and up had the return spring on the trans.

Jim, from what I've seen there were two different TV cable designs on the 1st gens, both are push type cables, the earlier ones had the return spring built in, the later ones like yours have the external spring.

It sounds like your cable is getting jammed, gummed up or starting to fray.

The spring would just be one of the other things the previous owner did/added to my truck that makes no sense.

Jim, your first picture that is at WOT correct?

Not on my truck (FWIW). And mine came with the spring at the IP end of things.
