Ok i know a tad on this subject... a friend of my fathers manufactures led flashlights for military purposes and they are BRIGHT, he had me take out my "nightligher" spot light with a MILLION candle power lol and he took his maglight sized flash light out and cut my beam like you were shining a lazer through it. WAYY brighter than any headlight i've ever seen and its maglight sized. I was given a website im searching for it right now... i came up short... http://www.streamlight-flashlights.com/m-3.html this is very similar to what im talking about.

Leds don't "burn out" but they do go bad...
interesting fact: LEDs birghtness and price is determined after its made, depending on the ammount of light it emmits when its tested determines which venue or price catagory it will be sold in.

I checked out a single beamer Peterbilt with the LED headlights. Extremely bright and EXTREMELY expensive according to the owner, $450.00 a light. But he said a 10 year warranty, if true the per year cost isn't bad. It's about twice my annual cost for headlight replacements due to burn outs, breakage, ect. His claim was they won't break from rock chip damage, if this is true it wouldn't be a bad deal. I lose almost all my lights from rock chip damage. They were extremely bright with a different type of glow to them, not the blinding type glow you have with the HID's.

Getting a little off topic, but good LED flashlights are just amazing these days. I carry a little AAA powered light on my keyring and it's more powerful than my old 5 D Maglite. Absolutely stunning! It's really all the flashlight I ever need, and it fits in my pocket. It's called an Illumina Ti, other good single AAA lights are ITP A3 EOS and Fenix LD01.

I agree that LED headlights are not far off.

Two 7" LEDs on order from Jim Lane's link truck-lite.com

I'll let you know how they go...

Also drooling over those LED tactical lights... Not sure which one to get though. The led maglites are all I have. Steamlights are excellent as well..

Am off topic too ... My little LED flashlight from a company called "Sure Fire" was pricey but is amazing. Can find them at military/tactical stores or on the web. And I'm still replacing my SilverStars (and cursing) far too regularly while awaiting a 6054 replacement in LED.

Before you order these, remember that military vehicles including pickup trucks are all 24-volt systems

they are gonna look great no matter what you put them on. Also LED lights don't always look/work well on video for some reason, sometimes they flicker and throw off an odd glow.

JB weld a set of those key-ring flashlights in you're headlight sockets and away ya go!

I wanted you to make sure you didn't get the wrong voltage.

I have 4 of these flashlights and I carry one of them all of the time, it is 3.44 watts and is really bright for its size at 90 lumens, it is small enough so I can hold it in my mouth and I have used it to work under houses or in attics hours at a time, or I will use one of my high power LED headlamps and keep this for a backup.

I bought them at Home Depot for about $40.00 apiece and they are real sturdily made, I have dropped mine several times and they have rolled off the roof.

It is bright enough that if you look into the beam it will disorientate you.
