Question Larger delivery valves for the ve pump? Need more fuel!

As some know me and my brother in law have built dedicated race trucks powered my the ol mighty cummins. Mine a 81 short chevy with a p-pumped 12v and his a 91 short chevy with the ve 12v. Mine up and going now and made it to the track a couple times and his is prob. 4-5 weeks away. Hes seen mine run and really wants to pour the fuel to it, we've already redone the head, valve job, .20 cummins gasket, arp studs, 60 lbs valve springs, fixed the KDP, we got a kit and going through the ve pump there we will replacing the 366 spring with the #354 that he purchased. He has the BD Super B turbo and full 4" exh. prob. going to go back to twin 5" stacks very soon. We both want it to be compeditive, how can we get more fuel? Can the 14mm head that ive heard about be bought somewhere and installed while we have the pump out and apart this comming weekend? Ive also seen that it appears to have delivery valves simular to in my pump can they be machined or replaced as well? Will those of you that know some pump majic on the VE please share some good knowlege......Ryan

What injectors is he running or going to run? And what kind of fuel supply is he going to run to the VE?

Like mine it will have a fuel cell in the rear feeding a -8 feed and -6 return line. For now he has some big 4 holers that he got cheap on e bay some years back, they make good fuel [boost] but are dirty, while thier out we will be replacing the copper washers under them to .20's from what he measured was .100's?? Maybe this will help with the spray pattern and temps. He plans to make a trip or two with these sticks for a baseline then buy a real set of injectors that will deliver the fuel. ~Ryan~

Sounds like POD's. I would run the thinnest washer you can find, .020" sounds about right. What transfer pump is he going to run? Beware, excessive fuel pressure at the inlet will pop the front seal out if you don't do something to hold it in. I bored the hole deeper and put a snap ring groove in to hold my seal in.

Thanks Mike for the heads up. He will prob. run a hooley blue with the factory mechanical pump as im doing with good results, or the 2nd gen pump like mine the the H.Blue? I found this info from over at CompD, thought i would share, Rocken Tech Products 707-658-1915. I would have posted the link like many do but dont know how. Look them up, they do all kinds of neat things with the VE pump, also looks like a great place to get the 14mm head and custom delivery valves etc.... also injectors. We'll be putting a call in' in the morning for some prices. Ryan

I'd get one of the 14mm H/R from KTA, they're $500, and they are proven over 600hp to the wheels as long as you have the lift pump to support it. They'll do more for you than anything else will.

I'm running one of Rocken Tech's right now, KTA's is sitting next to my desk. Got about 30 miles and 3 full power pulls on the dyno so far. We'll see how long it lasts. Running a mix of grey bottle power service and 2 stroke oil as a lubricant.

How much of a gain have you seen with the Rocken Tech pump? Did you get it put on a test stand? How many CC's? That is, of course, if you can say and it's not a secret

Previous dyno runs were 370/850, the latest one ran 424/1039.

I did run it on a test stand but I could not get a good CC number, my stand just isn't up to the task of running a 14mm pump at capacity.
