Larger Compressor wheel

I am still running the stock turbo setup on my non-IC 91, and was looking at HTT website to pass time. Is a larger-60mm compressor housing better when adding more fuel? or does it take more to make it spool it up?

I under stand the smaller exhaust housing idea, but the larger compressor side is still foggy.

Just curious.

It will help cool EGTs and maybe provide a little more power if your truck is starved for air, but it will take longer to spool because of the increased size and mass. It may or may not be as noticeable as a different exh. housing, I'm not sure.

^All of that is only what I have gathered from reading on this site; I have no REAL experience.

i have added one if them to my truck and love it. i did not notace any difference in spool up when i added one to my truck. it also cooled my EGTs at good bit.

The stock H1C compressor housing/pinwheel is woefully undersized for even a mildly bombed truck. The larger housing and wheel combination can move a greater volume of air while still remaining efficiant. Up to about 250-275 RWHP I think the HTT stage III is the way to go for the budget-minded BOMBER. Not only is it on my list, but it's checked off! I'll be able to give a hands on report sometime next week.

You will find that spoolup is about the same. The bigger wheel is not that much heavier. Keep in mind before you tear into the truck that the new compressor housing will not be the same as your "baby" H1C. You will need a larger intake tube, and you will have to come up with a way to attach the late model flanged outlet to your air crossover tube. Several guys have used a silicone elbow/adapter to do this with good results.

I built a full 3 inch ID crossover tube to connect to a 3 inch ID Freightliner intake horn for my compressor mod...which was installing a wheel and housing from a 94 H1C (my son's when he upgraded).
I can say it initially created a little turbo lag, but then I "adjusted" the fuel screw a little, turned the starwheel down, and the lag went away.
I can't say whether EGTs went down, if they did it was not much. The truck does have more power for sure thru all the rpm ranges.
It also whines like crazy...
If I knew how to post a pic of the intake system I would....

RJ73---where'd you get the silicone adapter and clamps? That's the smoothest transition I've seen yet!

What is the efficiency range when you upgrad the H1C. I Just installed my boost gauge today and took it out for a quick boot. I saw about 37 psi but i bet i could get it up a bit more if I wanted. No wonder my pyro peggs so fast. Im in desperate need of some air, well efficient air anyways.

The upgrade housings work well from 32-38 psi. Over 40 psi any single turbo setup is just heating the air.
