Installing a Walbro (not the 392) need a few pointers

I bought a 10 psi walbro for my mercedes diesel about 7 years ago, i never installed it and I've got an entire kit laying around doing nothing. Relay, pre filter, brackets, lots of 5/16" fuel hose, brass nipples, wiring. I could feasibly put this on the truck this afternoon!

My stock lift pump on the d250 is weak. it can't stand having a fuel filter that is not perfectly clean. so i thought i'd put the Walbro 10psi rated pump in line to assist. I've read about using regulators to bring the 392's down to 15psi which is apparently the most the VE44 wants to see on the inlet side.

So my questions are
, do i need a regulator (probably not i guess) and is this pump going to even make a difference?

This is a work truck, it generally doesn't see highway driving and all i care is to make it run like it did close to stock with the IP tweaked ever so slightly. Will this 10psi rated pump get me there?

Money is super tight right now which is what led me down the road to use this set up that I've already got on hand.

I personally would stick with a mechanical pump. Do the piston pump conversion, you cant go wrong. You can use an electric pump to push fuel through a mechanical pump, but why? They just get in each others way. Use one or the other.

also, is the feed line going from the tank to the manual priming pump an NPT fitting?

i thought the mechanical piston pump was in the tank, no?

also, if i had a replacement mechanical pump lying around, that's exactly what id do too.

NO.

It needs a spacer, but otherwise bolts up where the diaphragm pump goes.

A pump in then tank has to be electrical.

My confusion about the placement was from reading about a walbro 392 install in the 3rd gen section of another forum.

well i up and just installed what i had. I used a stainless 25 micron screen filter/housing that i bought with my walbro. I opted not to do any plumbing so i just welded up a bracket that held the filter and pump close to where the stock LP is and they just intercept the fuel flow and feed back into the stock pump. I have the filter before pump. This is what was recommended to protect the pump as it was not restrictive like a paper element.

The little walbro operates on demand. This will keep me going until I can get time/money for a proper mechanical lift pump which I would ultimately prefer.
