I know the feeling. Only time I've seen them clean is at 50 lbs of boost

you need a turbo BEFORE injectors trust me. if you think it smokes now put a set of 5x18's in.

buy the turbo you want first. it will clean up smoke.
then take your injectors out and have the pop pressure re-set and checked over. you will be close to 400hp and run clean

i think u bought them PODS from me

i didnt like the haze either but they make nice power

those injectors have low miles on them, the guy i bought the truck from (friend of a friend) said 15 or 20 thousand miles tops

my truck had a hybrid turbo setup and cleaned up nice at boost

easily 40 pounds of boost but would get hot if i kept my foot in it

HATED the haze, i ran biodiesel so guys at the fire station would whine about old smokey

I already have the timing to the head I was thinking about jumping a tooth but I don't know if that will be too much. I have put about 20 thousand on them already but that still should be nothing for them.

I have done a couple of 'conservative' test drives with the 5x.012's I just put in. I can certainly smoke it if I want to, but light driving I don't notice any visual difference. The extra torque is great! I don't have to downshift to 3rd nearly as often.... it just pulls.

I don't really care about smoke when I am driving it is the haze at an idle that is driving me nuts.

i went with the low budget diesel performance injectors jimbo recommended, looking to run cleaner on the streets of cal, not wanting as much power as your looking to hit, with all the air flow mods i got, including turning the pump down a bit, when i really get into it letting the pump full fuel, it will black out the rear view at 40psi, granted im using the smaller cooler, i feel the ps cooler still wont be enough, i hate to see fuel going out the tail pipe that could be adding to the power numbers, these are smaller 5x12, no complaints on normal driveablity around town, or towing exhaust temps, its all about how much air can you pump in?

The PODs apparently have a sac tip... that design tends to haze more because there is a small puddle that collects in the tip. Check this out: http://competitiondiesel.com/forums/...ad.php?t=88662

you sound like a guy who likes to see smoke out the back of the truck more then a guy who wants performance

buy a turbo whick you will need anyway if you put in injectors. and make the 400hp you want with the injectors you have..

sounds like a good idea to me

or buy 5x18 injectors get bad milage and make it smoke like a train.............all your buddys will think its faster though

No you are not getting what I an saying about the smoke. I don't work the truck and nj is flat as a surf board. The smoke would only really happen if I had my foot in it right or am I wrong in what I am thinking? That is why I am in here asking questions if you don't like what I am asking find another thread to read. You said smoke and egt was uncontrollable when you were hooked to a trailer and I don't tow. If these injectors are too big I will buy a smaller set I was just trying to figure out what would be the right move for me. I can't keep the pods like you said to do because a turbo ain't going to clean up the idle haze and that is what is bothering me. I also think that I have an injector going bad because my mileage is dropping off and the haze has gotten worse.

So my next question would be what is the biggest injector I could run with the setup I have now. Is there an injector that I can put in now that will support the 450hp mark? My goal may not be attainable but I don't know that is why I am asking sorry if I upset you guys I am just trying to figure out what injector I should get thanks.

Zack put down almost 400hp a few years ago with 435 injectors (5x14) and a Hyrbrid turbo. Right after he put the lockup trans in.

I think a 5x16 would get you where you want to be.

Most of us are still trying to understand certain things, Bill. It's perfectly alright if you're inquiring other minds for advice or opinions. Lucas gave you his but he could have left quite a few comments out of his reply.

I would agree that the 5x.018s might be a little large for your setup at the moment. However, don't sell the injectors short. If you plan on a turbo upgrade in the near future, get an injector that will complement your setup now and the new turbo as well.

For example, with the 5x.012s I'm running, I asked Nick at LBDP if running even a ported 12cm would hurt at all. He told me that even the 14cm is getting a little tight for running 5x.012s.

5x.014s could spool a compound turbo setup pretty well or even a larger single.

As for the haze you're getting from the PODs. I don't know if it can be attributed to a bad/worn out injector. When I had my stock injectors tested, 4 of the 6 weren't atomizing but I never had a bit of haze at idle. Then again, I don't have an auto trans, so I'm in neutral whenever I'm at a stand-still. I have read that PODs have a spray angle of 155* for a non i/c piston bowl rather than 145* for an i/c piston bowl which you have. As well as what everyone else has heard, a higher popping pressure, 260 bar as opposed to 245 bar. Those 2 facts could be the reason for a haze.

Just more ideas and thoughts for you to throw around.

re read my posts

the smoke is UNCONTROLABLE empty. and un-driveable with a trailer..

you state you want a "cleaner" running injector that doesnt haze at idle and a injector that does smoke when running down the road is not a concern.

read above again.

what you want does not exist.

small injectors dont haze at idle and smoke while driving.

bigger injectors haze slightly at idle and smoke a fair amount.

5x18 injectors will haze as bad as your pods and will smoke so bad while driving you will get a ticket or have fire trucks chasing you.

TURBO upgrade will solve the driving smoke
bigger injectors will not help your haze

AFC adjustment will help your low boost smoke.

iam still confused why making your truck a smokey poor egt running truck is better then bolting on a turbo (that you will need anyway)now and making the 400 hp you want?

a nice bb garrett would be a nice upgrade.

i dont mean to come off rude its just your asking for two different things no haze/low smoke and big hp with a small turbo...........just a combination that doesnt exist

unless you
