Injector removal

Does anyone have any instructions on how to remove AND install injectors on your motors?

I did see in the one sticky about making a removal tool, but it says not much else about the particulars on removal or installation.

Unless I missed something....

The tool works great!

You take the bolt you welded on and screw it onto the injector inlet, where the line would connect. Now you turn the bolt and it pulls the injector up and out.

You remove the injector line and the return line. Then you reomve the big nut that in around the injector. Then remove the injector. Just don't loose the copper washers on the return line or the washer at the bottom of the injector that seals it to the head.

This is how I do it
- remove the cover plate thats on top of the valve covers,
-Loosen the injector line retainers
-remove the high pressure lines from the injectors (17mm)
-remove the banjo bolts and copper washers from the return line (10mm)
-loosen and remove the injector retainers (I believe I use a 15/16 deep socket since I dont have a metric size that fits)
-install injector removal tool and take a 15mm wrench and turn the injector back and forth while pulling the injector out. They usually arent that hard to get out but they can be.

Installing them is reverse removal, just make sure the injector bores in the head dont have anything in them that will cause a bad seal. Tighten the injector retainers to 44ft.lbs. I dont have the torque number for the banjo bolts handy but I want to say its like 22in.lbs. Just dont break them off.

before making the tool also try using a wrench to turn them back and forth. a little penetrating fluid. then GENTLY put visegrip on the BODY and twist back and forth while pulling up, i have yet needed the tool.

aparently the thread on the injector is the same as a honda car lug nut.

My version of the removal tool was to get a nut that fits the injector thread, got a 3" bolt, washer, and nut of the same diameter, but a coarser thread pitch. Put the pushing nut and washer on the bolt first, then forced the injector sized nut onto the end of the bolt a couple of threads. for the tube, I used 1" PVC 2" long.
that's what I had to do, wish I had a welder here.

What actually holds the injector in the head?

Are the 24 mm nuts right or left handed threads?

The nuts hold them down, standard thread (ccw removal). then years of rust, baked oil, etc. glue them in the injector bore. That is why the removal tool is very handy. Mine popped right out using the tool.
Helps to soak in penetrating oil first.

Another note. when taking them out, if you turn them back and forth dont pry on them too much. They have a nub on them that slides into a slot in the injector bore to keep the injector strait. There should be enough play back and forth to kind of break them loose though.

Also, before you install them put some anti-seize on the injector housing. Dont get any on the nozzle its self though. That will make them easier to take them out next time if you ever have to.
