Injector Growth
My friend has been trying to tell me his 90 model injectors flow more than my 92. Says his are 19mm and mine are 17mm. ??? ???
Actually, the non intercooled CTD's run a 9mm tip and the intercooled CTD's run a 7mm tip. And yes, they do flow more fuel (to an extent). This is why you will not see any performance gain on a non intercooled when going to the Powerwagon Bosch 185's.

Re:Injector Growth
Thought you were gonna say they were growing on trees and I could get a deal.
Yeah, they are different, if your gonna upgrade injectors, it probabaly wouldn't be worth your while unless you go with Power Wagons or P.O.D.'s.

Re:Injector Growth
The 89-90 non-intercooled engines use different injectors, delivery valves and larger 2.0mm injection lines (vs 1.8mm of the later engines) BUT the pump runs at a lower pressure. Pump pressures were increased in 91 and the injectors, delivery valves and injection lines were changed accordingly along with intercooling. The heads with the larger bodied injectors are also more prone to cracking.

Well if it's a pump you need gimme a call, we can have you crankin some scary results pretty quick.
Actually the change in pressure was the result of the smaller ID on the injector lines.. I'm not positive about the DV specs though.... jbolt... have you got any specifics on that??? part numbers etc???
bob.

Re:Injector Growth
I have several pumps but none are 92. A 90,93,and a 89. The 90 was just rebuilt.
My pump should be fine. Truck has 95k miles on it and pump was replaced @ 24k under warranty and wasnt tweeked until about 85k. One and a half turns on the power screw. Maybe she will live awhile.
Im undecided rite know to get a better pump maybe a p-pump or injectors. Everyone says injectors and im leaning that way.

Re:Injector Growth
Hey Bob,
As you know when it comes to getting part numbers for individual Bosch parts you need to know the super secret handshake and password. The information I have is that the early DVs were refered to as long delivery valves and the newer DVs are short delivery valves. My guess is that the DVs, injectors and pressure valve were matched for the time. Cummins states the 1.8 tube material is strengthened for the higher pump pressures. Now the goofy part is what I've found is all the replacement pumps default to the same part number. Same with the cylinder heads and camshafts.

Re:Injector Growth
Any of your pumps will work on your 92. Small difference in pop of pressure but nothing to worry about.
Your friends injectors would flow the same as Bosch 185hp inj if they were new and weren't worn but will not fit in your 92 because of the larger inj tip bore. Everything else is the same as the 91.5-93 injectors.
Besides why would you put in someones old worn inj's when you can buy some matched POD's that flow more fuel and out pull 185's bigtime. ;D

Thanks nascarmark,
I will hang on to my spares then, I wasnt going to put someones old injectors in I was curious about the flows and if was that big a difference. I have access to a new set of 89 and 90 model injectors. Guess they no good to me.
