I'll have my automatic back!

Finally got my new truck out of the shop, albeit with a few issues still. I've been driving it around and I must say I liked my a518 old intercooled truck better. It was a ton quicker. The getrag leaves laggy boost holes everywhere and doesn't like to be hustled.

I have one of each and I prefer the 5 speed. Just take your time and learn how to drive it. If the lag bothers you, change the housing to something smaller.

Your old auto truck was even faster when I got done with it. You and I both wish we had it back. I sold it to a 15 year old kid in Michigan. Haven't heard a word about it since he drove away ~2 years ago.

Put a 12cm exhaust housing on it and turn up the pump. It'll run away from the auto.

My 93 won't hold a candle to my 89 as far as 0 to 60. They both have the same power, but the 89 is about 2 seconds quicker in the 1/8th. Auto trucks are hard to beat, unless you are doing a dyno, or hauling. They each have there place where they are better.

These getrags are prety durable though. Mine went over 6 months with no fluid in it(its a long story... dont ask), a few years later shifting better than ever, no problems so far.(im sure a rebuild is in the future though).

Yes they definately have their place. All depends on what ya do with the truck. But personally I can't bad mouth these dodge autos and i'll stick up for them cuz if mine is still holdin up to 300+ horse and is still doin pretty good then that really proves somethin if you ask me. I've been amazed mine has held up this long.

Yeah, if you have the 21cm housing (like I did), taking Brandon's advice above WILL make a huge difference in drivability. 21CM is NOT suited for the Getrag.

i RECENTLY BOUGHT A 91.5 W250 AUTOMATIC AND THE TRANNY IS NOT ACTING RIGHT. IT DOES FINE IN 1ST AND 2ND BUT IT ACTS LIKE IT DOES NOT WANT TO GO IN 3RD AND 4TH. IT WILL RUN 65 TO 70MPH IN 4TH BUT IT WILL NOT LOCK UP. DO I NEED A NEW VALVE BODY OR A REBUILD?

FIRST, STOP TYPING IN ALL CAPS, EVERYONE HATES THAT.

Second, stop derailing threads. Make your own thread, don't be lazy.

Third, your trans won't lock up because........................it isn't supposed to. It's a non-lock up converter.

About the only way I see a standard winning from a stop is if they have a race clutch and can start off in 3rd. Rev it up and side step it.

Not a chance. Autos are faster when the trucks are evenly matched...this is known information. Want proof? Look at the Fast 50 street truck list for all three brands of diesel trucks. See any manuals? Nope. Now check out the fastest 50 manual diesels. It's not even close.

Unless Im overlooking someone, there isn't a manual diesel truck that has made it out of the 12's yet. There is a Dmax manual that I know of that runs 12.6, which is plenty quick, until you see his mod list. He makes 10 second power.
