Ignition cylinder holding the key ransom
Ignition cylinder holding the key ransom
The ignition cylinder on my 91.5 is trying to hold the key ransom, Won't let the key go some times. So bought a Standard T series cylinder lock to fix the problem. Only it's worse than the one thats in the truck now. I've swapped old one back in, it works better. Put the new one back in and it's worse and it won't release the key.
First fix I though would work is take the tumblers out, but both of the cylinder locks are replacements and I understand you can't re-key them.
Second idea was cut the key head off, jam it in the cylinder, but then you can't remove the cylinder for any repairs.
Third idea is defeat the lock in the cylinder that prevents the ignition cylinder from turning. This would also be accompanied with a pull to stop cable on the IP and a hidden push button starter button.
I'll be studying the cylinder lock in the mean time waiting for your thoughts.

I suspect that the cylinder is not lining up with the "lock" position. If the tumblers don't line up with the holes in the lock body then you won't get the key out. Have you tried turning the key cylinder a bit further, or less far to get the key out? My switch is down on the column with a rod connecting it to the cylinder if the position of the switch is off the cylinder won't line up with the body and the key will be stuck. If your switch is behind the cylinder I suspect you have a similar alignment problem.
It feels like the tumblers and or the key it's self is "key" to the problem. I can angle the key up, down, pull up, push down and sometime in between it releases the key. But not always, sometimes the key comes out no problem.
With the cylinder lock removed, Can't get it to repeat the "holding". Worked on it all evening both old and new cylinder locks functioned OK. As far as defeating the locking mechanism, way to complicated. Guess I'll just live with it till it breaks.
