I want a BIG BILLY BAD TRANNY
I want a BIG BILLY BAD TRANNY
Ok, at 162,000 miles or so, I lose the Auto in my 91.5 CTD. Rebuild lasted less than 5000 miles, or about 6 weeks.
I need to know, who builds the best Trannies fro the 1st gen's.
Rich Klein
PS, I tow many many miles. In 11 months I've driven 45,000 plus miles

Get a trans from DTT and then FORGET ABOUT IT.. I have driven this tranny of mine HARD from day one. Thats been over 3 years now. 35" tires and 3.54 gears can be even harder on a trans, along with a few sled pulls, pulling 9000 lb trailer,, at least 75 to 100 serious power braking burnouts,3 shattered flexplates, and countless 20 lb launches! I drive my truck to have FUN EVERYDAY.. Just incase its my last.. and the trans feels just as good as the day I installed it! I have switched to a 2nd gen downpipe to get it away from the transmission line, the radiant heat off the down pipe will COOK your trans fluid. I would bet thats whats happening to yours because you tow so much.. When I installed mine I put in a remote Filter and the biggest Hayden cooler made..Come on down to Fresno and you can drive my truck..

I agree. BIll and his family & friends are great to everyone. Have a problem, call them up and they answer it while you are usually on the phone with them. The people that install their DTT trannys who are located around the states are fine people also. They keep up with the Training that Bill offers and it shows in their service to their customers. I still love mine after 70,000 miles.

What tranny do we have in our Gen 1's;
what is the preferred converter? (list choice of --89 or -91)
I'm looking for solid HD industrial towing (20k+ = gw of trailer and cargo) '93 - 1t 4x4 dually
I also live pretty close to these guys (DTT) and have a friend who is very happy with his DTT but; $3500 + TC is about what I paid for the truck. Are there any more econo (must be robust) solutions? Do I want to only try a TC, or is the stock tranny gonna die? (150k of hard work so far)
