If you ever decide that you're tired of your wheels filling up with snow and put different ones on, please let me know! I'm trying to track down a set of those slotted mags...

I see that you have the in-cab fuel tank. My truck currently lacks that but I've debated back and forth if I want to add one or not. Since I'm going to go with stacks I'll have more room underneath for more fuel tanks if I route the exhaust intelligently, so it's less critical for the in-cab tank, but I don't deny that the possibilities of going hundreds of miles without any fuel concerns appeal.

Any smell associated with that tank? A buddy said that he always thought there was a very faint gasoline smell in his cab with that tank, but I don't know if it's just psycho-somatic or not. If I don't put one in then I'll have more room for tools or supplies...

So I am counting about 15 (including a couple from another forum) finished trucks and about the same currently being built.

Mine was about in the same shape

But I am glad I didn't go hunting for a donor, because now I know what I gut under the crew. By the time, if I got a donor, I started going through axles, tranny, adding lift, new shocks, tires, and so on, I think I would have come out further in the red than I am now- even if I got premium dollar for mine. Besides I see that cancer starting on the green one, same spot as mine

Add another to your list Thiss mine is currently in the finding parts/planning stage even thou I just put a built gasser in it that can go to other projects.

Which other forums have you checked? I'm fairly sure a few are being built over @ RamchargerCentral

Mine is still in the build process. I dont think I'd ever do it again though. It's cost me about double what I thought it was going to and taken way more time then I ever imagined. Hope to finish it up by the end of the summer.

It looks better in pictures than in person

I've "talked" to Featherman-he's sent my build pictures of his and I could only hope once I get to mine that it turns out 1/2 as nice as his. That truck is a thing of beauty.

Just a quick note. This applies to MOST but NOT ALL states that have vehicle inspections. If the truck originally came with an interior tank it can be retained or replaced with a replacement. So being able to have a tank in cab could depend on the particular year you have your truck titled as. I'm not sure what year the tank was move to the exterior of the truck. I know my 77 has the outside tank. I'd hate to see somebody go through all the trouble involved in putting in an interior tank only to find out it won't pass a vehicle inspection.

I got rid of the slotted mags because one cracked around one of the "slots" and was leaking. They were about 40 years old... The local used tire shop has the slot mags now - traded them.

I was running Budd wheels in the snow.

The in cab tank doesn't ever put out any diesel smell...

In California we don't have inspections. We don't even have any smog/emmissions requirements for pre '75 vehicles.

Case in point I picked up a '74 Ramcharger that had been non - op'd for over 10 years. Walked into the DMV paid my fees and 10 minutes later had a new tag and rego slip.

Yeah, I'm in Arizona, no regular safety vehicle inspections here, but I still would have a tailpipe test. I'd have to have a more thorough emissions equipment inspection, and at that time they'd probably classify the truck to the the emissions profile of an '89 D350, based on my GVWR and GCWR, or if I'm unlucky I'll have to go with the emissions profile of whatever year the donor truck was. I'd have to use the same kinds of catalytic converters that the donor had, and since I'd be splitting to two exhaust pipes somewhere after the turbo the placement of the cats relative to the turbo would dictate if I go through a Y pipe first and then have two cats, or if I can put the cat close and then split to the two pipes.

I think that at this point, Arizona has some of the strongest laws on emissions. Everything in the Phoenix or Tucson areas that ever had emissions rules on it in the first place is tested with one exception. This means that a buddy's '67 Barracuda still has to be tested. That exception is if one has collector car insurance on a vehicle and registers that insurance state with the DMV. Collector's insurance prohibits driving a car for business or commuting, and some insurance policies also have mileage restrictions. That's why they don't test those. I don't know what year exactly light trucks (class I-III) started being tested, but it appears from what I've read that even at 8500GVWR I'll still have to be tested.

I've never had my truck registered- the truck came from out of an emissions area and I don't think that it's compliant. The truck has pipes from the exhaust manifolds on each side to mufflers, then the pipes out of the mufflers make right turns and come out under the rear doors straight out. Trouble is, I can't find any information on what equipment the truck is supposed to have. The only reference I can find for years for equipment was on a Chevy enthusiast website that said that in 1979 trucks got cats, but I don't know if they mean Chevy trucks or all trucks.

It can be very frustrating...

This is where I'm at. By the time I'm done I couldn't sell it if I wanted to. Rough run down of parts and pickups.

84 rust free running crew cab = $4000
91 donor pickup = $2000
intercooler, radiator, and everything to make it factory intercooled = ~$500
Going through motor = ~$600
Built 47hr trans = ~$3000
Interior = $1000
exterior - Paint and bedliner $4200
Cusotom lift springs, shocks, cross over steering = $2000
Wheels, Tires, and fender flares = $2400

I'm forgeting a ton of stuff, but by the time it's all said and down I figure I'll have over 20K into it. Most of this stuff is sitting waiting to be installed and some still has to be ordered. It adds up fast. I'm doing way more then I planned on, but it'll be a one off pickup and paid for.
