yeah I'd try a different dealer when you had a chance. I know that others on this board have gotten the new pump installed within the last few years for free....

Keith, They are lying to you, I had one replaced in 2002. Did not cost me a penny. By law it has to be replaced, it is a hazard, the engine could start runnig wide open .

Yeah, I know. It needs fixed.

Do you happen to have your invoice/receipt? If so, can you give me the part numbers from the paperwork? I'll call them on the phone like I am ordering it and see if they tell me its available. They told me "the main reason" they were not going to do it was the fact that the parts are discontinued. I had a suspicion they were lying about it, probably after finding out that they would not get paid by the factory for the work or whatever.

No, I believe they are telling the truth. That was a special part number, made specifically for the recall, and I have no doubt that number isn't in the system anymore. Sure there are still rebuilt IPs around, but they would have a completely different part number and not eligible to be paid for by Dodge if submitted as a recall.

I don't have any of the recepts or know where they are at. Do a search on te net about the recall and get all the facts and go to another dealer, if that don't get any results , try going to Cummins dealer before you give up.

I doubt Cummins would have much to say about a Dodge TSB.

I'd guess Dodge sells a rebuilt IP which has the beefed up parts. Dealership should figure out how to do the paperwork to get paid. You'd think that a 3 grand bill paid for by corporate would help their fianances.

If this was a safety recall and not a TSB it is required to be done. I searched the NHTSA database and there was no recall listed on their site. If you have the documentation stating its a safety recall and the dealer refuses to repair the failed component you can call the DOT safety hotline and file a complaint.

DOT Vehicle Safety Hotline:
For more information dial NHTSA's toll-free hotline at
(888) 327-4236 8:00AM to 10:00PM ET Monday-Friday.
Spanish speaking operators are available on the Hotline.

If it is a issue with a change of part numbers all the dealer has to do is contact their disctrict service rep and see how it has to be handled. Apparently the manager there does not know how to do his job. Imagine if you went down the road and caused an accident because the part failed (which I would never want to see happen) You have documentation proving the local dealer refused to change tha part for a federally mandated recall. That is like Xmas to a lawyer.
