So you'd rather polllute the air with it??(just messin' with ya man!!) Sounds like the way to go Logan...does it really start easier w/added oil? I would have guessed harder to start might be a result. Another question, do you see any real(measureable) increase/decrease in fuel mileage? Of course, a decrease would be offset by less fuel to buy(as you mentioned). Last question...where in the heck do you come up with 4 gallons every fill up??

 

Most of the extra pollution is in the form of particulate carbon, not CO2. The particulates settle out of the air very quickly and aren't particularly toxic to the environment.

Thanks for that info Edwin, I didn't know it wouldn't be mostly CO2 pollution. You'd figure most anything that 'burns' would create mostly CO2, or I least I would have. :-) Mainly I was surprised to read Logan adds 4 GALLONS(do you suppose he meant 4 QUARTS?) at each fillup; now that sounds like a LOT of 'burned' oil to me!! :-)

 

I can't remember who it was now, but someone here in the 1st gen family said they knew of some 6BTs on a farm or something like that somewhere that ran on straight used oil - 100% used oil, no #2 at all.

 

thanks guys, It was definately the fuel filter. Changed it and runs perfectly fine now.
Also, you do get a little better fuel mileage running used motor oil. I saw the fuel and it was greyish black from the used oil (No problem)
I cut the old filter apart to find that it was full of crud and junk

If you heat it up so it's liquid enough you could burn roofing tar. I read about one diesel engine that was designed to run on coal dust.

yes, its 4 GALLONS, LOL, i live in a farming community and used oil can be found easier than water, people use it to start fires, pour on fence posts, kill weeds, especially "clean" used oil, a single tractor holds a minimum of 4 or 5 gallons so what comes out of the 5 gallon rotella bucket goes right back in it just a little darker. my ticker dosent work so i cant tell ya the difference in actually mileage but it sure is cheaper, i figure i can save over 100 dollars per fuel filter, so i will use a 15 dollar filter to save 100 bucks, eventually i am gonna start storing it i na barrel with a hand pump and filter to a hose to fill my truck, ill be living in florida so 10 months out of the year it will be so warm it wont gel, the other 2 i will run regular diesel. KB440 can attest to me using 4 gallons cause that is where my last 4 came from and from what i seen he has some more up there for me, i got buddies with 15 or 20 rotella gallon bottles setting around full of used oil. my truck used to start kinda hard, now it starts better than my ranger does. so much for LSD and ULSD.

 

The particulate matter settling out is the exact reason we here in california are going to have to start smog testing our diesels in 08

 

I believe the oil has no bearing on your rough-running condition.

I have been pouring new and used oil in diesel fuel for many years.

Your engine should start and run on straight oil, and you hardly be able to tell the difference in running.

I believe that you just got a bad batch of fuel, along with an already almost stopped-up filter.

 

I have done the WVO and used motor oil. both work fine in the Truck in reasonable amount and in warmer weather. The rabbit seems to have a little trouble running Used motor oil when it comes time to start up. Everyone gives me their used turkey fryer oil which goes right in the tank because its basically new. Also if your going to try WVO or WMO have yourself a few spare filters at all times. Including the one you should have in the truck already. Find a good price and buy a few so you don't get held over the coals and forced to buy a 23.00 filter.

I've been running about 4 gallons of WVO and maybe a couple quarts of WMO every tank for several months now. Smells like a fench fry. Lost about 10% of my power. More smoke. No change in starting/running habits or in fuel economy.
