Headlights go out while driving '92 4WD D
I've got a '92 ext cab 4WD Diesel. Installed High power (Marchal) headlights a couple years ago that I had in a sedan years back and removed prior to selling. At first when on high beams cruising back country for about 5 min and headlights would go out (not parking, just headlights). Shutting off headlights for 2 - 3 seconds and they would come back on.
They are now doing it every few minutes on low beam - won't even work on high any more. It's like a relay is overheating or something but I can not see anything on a wiring diagram.
Any ideas what the problem is and how to fix?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Your headlamps are drawing too much current and causing the internal thermal circuit breaker inside your headlight switch to trip causing your lights to blackout.
You need to install a some relays on your headlamps to first save your wiring from burning up and second to take full advantage of your new headlamps.
Here is a link on how to install them.

You are welcome..
Glad I could help.
I first discovered this on my 1970 Mustang that I had about every gauge that Stewart Warner made in it, well at least 9 or 10 when I was cruising down Pacific Coast Highway on a moonless night at about at about 85-MPH when my headlamps and taillights suddenly blacked out, it was like being sucked through a black hole, although it as only 10-20 seconds before I got my landing lamps on it felt like an bad ride through Space Mountain.
Ever since then I have always relayed my headlamps. All of the extra gauge lamps overloaded the dimmer circuit helping to trip the internal circuit breaker in addition to the Cibie headlamps.
