Headlight Plight

My 89 has low beam headlights only. When I click the multifunction lever on the column I either get lowbeams or darkness. Is it the multifunction or something else? Thanx!

My guess is that your highbeam element in the headlight is blown. Can happen after voltage regulator issues or a voltage surge when your high beams were on. Time for a new set of headlights (go for the Silverstar Ultras).

The hella's are nice and bright. Replaceable bulbs now instead of replacing everything.

Take a HOT jumper-wire and put it to the hi-beam prong on the headlight; lights up = bulb okay, no light = bad bulb and problem found.

Otherwise, the dimmer-switch is probably bad.

Best is to buy a generic floor-mounted dimmer, screw it conveniently to the floor, and route the light wires through it, just eliminating that mess on the column.
