Ive secured a fresh rebuilt He351CW (60/60/9)for my build. This is the stock turbo from a 04-07.5 Dodge truck w/ electronic wastegate.
Ive got a few questions for you guys that have tinkered with oen of these.
What did you do with the elect. wastegate, I asked the shop thats rebuilding it to remove it completely as I dont have a way to use it anyhow. I have gauges so Ill lett off when need be. what did you all do?
I ordered 4" turbo back exhaust, I dont think its going to mount to the back of this turbo. Which down pipe are you all using tho run this turbo?

first thing call the shop back and tell them to leave it alone. i will send you a mod to the solenoid that only takes about 20 minutes. it gets to frustrating to run by gauges. the plumbing took me three days and i learned a lot. i took a few pix and can send. get the stock elbow to make the exhaust easier. the he351 mod is a very good one. you will like it a lot. pm me with your email address and i will send pix and instructions.
Don't even bother with that electronic one. Just leave the wires dangling, and control the wastegate with a manual boost controller that can be bought off ebay for $10-20. However, to run a wastegate, you'll either have to make some funky plumbing so you won't have to clock the turbo, or you'll have to make a custom mount for the wastegate actuator for when you clock the turbo since the mount is on the compressor.
Look around and use the search for the HE351cw and you'll turn up lots of good info for using it on a 1st gen. I love mine, and have a 2nd one I'm rebuilding with full pictures, but have not finished the write up yet or the rebuild yet due to holiday and work schedule. Standby!

The only thing Im kinda confused on is the flange on the downpipe. Which flange do I need on my downpipe? I just want to be able to use a V-clamp and not weld.

Thanks Damon...I see it now! Im going to leave the wastegat intact for now, if i cant get what I want out it.....shell get plugged. Anybody know what other exhaust housings (if any) fit this turbo?
That's a good flowing 9cm^2 exhaust housing. No need to switch it around, just get a different turbo for that. Most 1st genners like the HE351cw because it's a great turbo for under $500 or less that has great low temp air flow, quick spool, and limited exhaust restriction with manageable EGTs.
To buy one and them pump all kinds of money into it is sort of pointless. Besides, I'm not aware of any exhaust upgrades anyway.
Most people manage their boost pressures with a wastegate, not pump settings. Where's the fun in that?!! Cut the hose between the solenoid and the waste gate. Plug the hose from the solenoid so no boost leaks out. Tap into the outlet of the turbo and run that to the wastegate instead. Use a boost controller for $20 on ebay and adjust that to make your boost setting where you want it.

I dont plan on changing exhaust housings, just curious if i had any room to grow. with this adapter flange from ebay, If im looking at it right, Ill just use 2 clamps? One clamp downpipe to flange and another clamp for flange to exhaust housing?
