Harmonic Balancer replacement after tranny swap?

Hey folks,

I have a question...

I recently replaced my broken 518 with a used G360.

I have some vibration in the engine. Clutch in, clutch out, in gear, in neutral, driving, sitting still.

Now, I had a really bad vibration for a while, and it turned out to be a pressure plate that was slightly out of balance...so I had that issue fixed and reinstalled.

I still have a vibration...not as bad as it was...but definitely noticable...and VERY annoying.

I've done a small amount of looking around, and apparently the harmonic balancers are different for auto or manual trucks.

Do you think that maybe swapping to a new balancer might be a solution? I'm guessing that the manual part is bigger than the automatic to compensate for the large chunks of metal spinning with the engine (vs the flexplate).

Thanks!

When I look at the Fluiddampr they don't list one separately for manual or auto. It is possible that yours has gone bad. The rubber in them can deteriorate and allow the inner and outer to shift somewhat and come out of balance.

According to Napa, which I know is not the best source of info, but according to them the auto dampner is 8lbs and the manual is 12.

I have no idea where my vibration is coming from. I used the automatic crossmember, rather than the one from the 5 speed, and it lets the transmission sit lower...I'm thinking maybe the angle of the engine is now allowing for more vibrations to travel through the motor mounts...or at least that's one theory that's worth checking into.

Just want to have this project behind me...and a finished product that will last a long time...without crazy vibrations.
