Just a little update here

I replaced the Lift Pump last night and i am still having the same trouble. It seems sometimes it fires better then others, and it has nothing to do with if its warm/cold, or if it's sat for 5min/500 mins. i give the l/p a few cranks on the manual lever before i fire it and still it's hard to start. When i say it's hard to start i mean 4-5 seconds of cranking. Also when i manually prime with the lift pump i can here a "hiss" every once in awhile. Does everyones do this or is this an air leak? I've looked up and down all over and can see NO fuel leaks in te lines. The hiss i get when i prime manually almost seems like it's sucking air, but i never see any leaks with truck on/off. I also followed ram350's instructions above in this thread and the L/P supply line does indeed hold prime. I thought maybe fuel solenoid as well, but i've jumper it straight to the battery and it still, hard to start.

I put the PODs in through cold weather so it was always harder to start, but i'm still wondering if that had anything to do with it. RPM is steady at 800

Any thought much appreciated

Jeff

You do not need to leak fuel to have an air leak. The pump is sucking and can suck air through cracks too small for fuel to pass. Change out the rubber pieces of the line.

Would you say it's on the suction side then? Which lines should i replace the rubber pieces on specifically?

thanks'

Between tank and LP. I replaced both with full rubber lines.

Could it not possibly be between the LP and injector pump as well?

Seems to me if you pump and hear it hiss, it's trying to draw air. If there is no air in the line and you pump with a leak ahead of the pump, it would push fluid out. My well pump (shallow jet pump) is set up temporarily and does the same thing right now. Fortunately that pump self primes....

OK

After i put the new lift pump in, i hooked a clear line from the lift pump suction and ran it into a little pale full of diesel. Fired'er up and let if run for 5 mins. Shut it off leaving the clear line in the pale of fuel, and then tried to start it again 5 mins later, still hard. The line was full of diesel the whole time showing no loss of prime. I've checked the solenoid and return lines and now i am totally stumped.

Could my new POD injectors be causing this problem?

Could a pump shaft seal be leaking the fuel into my crankcase? If so would i still see a prime held at the lift pump?

any help again appreciated

Jeff

This is so dang simple I can't believe I missed it: Did you turn up your idle speed after you installed the POD's? They idle slower and that could be the cause of your problems.

We turned it up so it idles at about 800 RPM right after we installed then. I took my truck for a good hard run today, opening it up right to the governor in the gears and now the thing seems to start fine again. I'm thinking it could have been a sticky fuel pin, or something. All i know is everything seems to be very inconsistant.

I hope this is the end of my problems
