hahaha flexplate under warranty this is gonna be good

WEll as some of you may know or not, i just got back from a 2500 mile round trip in my truck. Well before i left it developed a ticking noise in the TC area. I was told it was probably the Flexplate. Well it is under warranty as the dealer i bought it from replaced it before i bought it. Well needless to say i drove all the way to TX and back and ofcourse the noise was getting worse and worse. Well i took it to the dealer when i got back and they have taken it on to figure out why it keeps breaking... I cant wait to see all the new stuff they replace trying to figure out what is a known problem all of which is warranteed. everything is new from the engine adapter plate to the rear yoke(literally a new yoke) anyway, hopefully it doesnt take 6 months to fix!

I guess nobody told them that the ones for the 89 to 93's are prone to breakage. The best thing to replace it with is a 2nd generation one 94-02.

unless there is actually something wrong lol. I just thought its funny that the dodge dealership is trying to troubleshoot a problem that is a well known problem. Thats where some of our hard earned money is going to when we get "Serviced" by the dealer!!! I dont know if they would put in a second gen plate or not since it "wasnt factory" I think its pretty bad that a flexplate breaks when with a stock TC it never really gets the full torque of the engine due to the stall being so high. Is the third gen FP much different?? Also i love this warranty stuff especially when on a 93!

Maybe they put in a "good" used one? I never had any trouble with my 2nd gen flexplate while I had it in the truck, it took alot of abuse with a lockup torque converter too. I currently have a BD flexplate in there right now, which is approximately twice the thickness and 2.5 times the price.

Do you know where its breaking? Center tearing out, cracks around the outer part? It sounds to me like this last one broke in a rather short amount of time. I wonder if there's something wrong with torque converter front cover causing it to flex the flexplate in a strange way.

I'm shore that thay put the stock one in....I would have, before i started reading in this form!

I'm shore he just went up to the conter and ask for 93 diesol flex plate and chry probly hasn't up dated to the newer flex plate.

You may need to educate the dealership and request the newer flex plate ......that is after thay deside it's the flex plate.

Sit down because they are probly gonna find that your crank is walking on you. Thrust bearing is probly sitting in the oil pan. Time for some engine work.

I am surprised that the dealer's technitions will even work on a vehicle that doesn't already know what is wrong.

Well they say it is a TC What a crapper that is and for some reason it isnt under warranty....Apparently only the overdrive unit was rebuilt....... A bit unethical to tell me the whole thing is rebuilt when only the OD unit was! Anyway they want about a grand for a TC.... I laughed at them and told them i would be down to pick up the truck tomorrow. Afterall for that grand i can get a heck of an aftermarket TC. My only issue is hopefully my tranny isnt full of schrapnel... Maybe i will trade it in somewhere else lol. This just really bumms me, barley 5000 miles on it and something major goes out. How easy are these to rebuild? (the tranny that is) I have built a turbo 400 before and it worked out great. are these 518 trannys about as simple???

If you have rebuilt a 400 you can rebuild that one just need a survice manual, paysionts, and totle clean ariea.... and the time also

As far as them telling you that the tranny was new,
it's just the tippicle problem with a sales men trying to sell the car and telling you what you want to hear, for the sale. sales men....People are usally no to mechanicly minded and could have mis under stand the fix
The survice department is allways the bad guy cus thay get to tell you the hole truth of the salements statements ,

I don't understand how a torque converter going bad will cause the flex plate to go bad, unless the bolt bosses broke off or it completely cracked open, but then you'd have fluid running everywhere!! Also how do they know for sure its the torque converter without taking the tranny out? You can't exactly see it when its in there.
