got new batteries.
Had one go bad. Got a pair of group 24 (what was in it) irrigation batteries at Orshlen's for $45 each.
The old ones. One was a no-name, the other is a Wally's-mart special, I'll let you guess which is which.
Guess what I found when I got home, rode there over 30 miles.

I've never seen batteries installed in our trucks that way before.
How many CCA's are the new batteries each ?

BTW,
A simple trick, I read some time ago, about extending the life of a battery in a vehicle was to install a thin sheet of rubber below it.
Supposedly it absorbs vibrations which help reduce the amount of plate breakdown (lead plates inside) . Sounds like a good idea...

for some reason i think i see 460CCA 575CA. i think if you had just bought 1 for $90 it could have done the same job as the 2 $45 batteries.
its pretty cool to see the batteries like that. my dad told me i could do that with my trucks but i have never had a use for 2 batteries.
i also got to say i am not a big fan of those painted battery clamps. i had a set and they cost me $8 for a set. i ended up tossing them for a $4 set which worked way better.

These weren't $8, I know that. Had to buy the bolts separate for the fancy nuts for them, but I don't have to worry about trying to get a wrench on them. That was another 80 cents. Cleaned up all the posts and terminals and scraped where the cables clamp into the new terminals. The other two that the cables bolt to were in the truck when I got it.
Group 31's around here are $110+.
This way if one goes bad, I can still run on the other one for a week or two like I just did this time. If the battery had gone bad in the spring I still would have waited to replace them.
There were several layers of thick cork gasket material under the wally's-mart battery to get up to the same height as the no-name. The terminals won't be hitting the fender now, either. It was a problem with the wally's-mart battery. They are all labeled group 24 but it is a half inch shorter than the other three. I layed them out so both batteries are sitting on two layers of cork.
If it weren't for a bracket of some sort between the battery and radiator I could have dropped in a pair of group 27's but they are at least another $60 for the pair.

Just sitting on the stock tray. There is a rubber mat on it then two layers, six pieces, of gasket material. Didn't have any better place for it so I put it under the new ones.

Yeah.. that's a nice setup for the money. Napa has one for $105 but it has the cheap pegs. Interstate sells a nice battery;

FWIW<
if times make it necessary, you can take those temporary cable ends and make them really stout. By simply removing them from the post, loading the connecton between the end and the wire with solder flux, and take out your propane torch and heat some solder in the connection. Worked like a charm in my MIL's Honda, as the cable ends were gone, and the new ones were way too difficult to change out on a 25 year old junkbox

napa batteries are overpriced and junky, sucky 18 month warranty too. And if it tests good they won't replace it they will charge it for you and give you a "loaner battery" in the process, I used to work for napa and I hated their batteries.
I work at Advance auto now and we don't hassle about the warranty, if it's within the free replacement warranty it gets replaced no questions asked, just like walmart.
the Walmart battery in my girlfriend's car died after 3 months, just randomly dropped a cell and had like 10v in it, I know I could have charged it and probably used it but I took it back to walmart and I set it on the counter and they told me to go get another one off the shelf, didn't test it or anything.
