Holset 351va is this the turbo we want and will it fit my 1990 non i/c

 

Hey man, sent you a PM regarding your setup. I'd love to drop by and check it out seein's how we live in the same area. That run at Cecil, was it with this turbo? Also, if you don't mind me asking, it sounds really squeaky in the one pic? aseems like when you close/open the exhaust trubine it goes away? What's up with that? I'd love to pic one of these up and tinker around with it myself as I have access to CNC and Tig so making a mount would be no problem. Just curious is all...tks!

 

The 13.45@101 pass was with the he351ve the squeaky sound in the vid was because the adapter has a small leak.If you want to come down on saturday I should be home

i was just about to ask how you made a 3rd gen manifold work on a 1st gen, then i read your sig

Yeah, My apologizes. I realize this is a 12V Thread, but in the end, this is something that can be done on any one of our trucks. I was able to learn so much by reading these threads across many forums. Im just trying to help the next guy.

No, It was my dads set from before he died. It was purchased before i can even remember costco being around. He got it from grainger i believe.

 

I've got another question, do the springs bring the lever back to the same starting position every time?

Very interested in a report back on how it works! Even if its on a 3rd gen.

 

Yes, it does bring it back to the same spot every time. However that spot is not exactly were i would like it. It stops a little short, but i have seen all of people reporting back that everything loosens up after it is oiled from the truck. Im hoping this helps.

Got another question, how did you determine where you want your start point? How do you know you're not getting into EB territory?

 

As far as i know the EB is all the way closed. Anything less than that should be ok. So i guessed close. I'm not ruling out the need to adjust.

 

think i've figured this part out. if you had a small air tank like a piece of 2" pipe welded closed in the line from the manifold to the ram that operates the arm it would take a little bit for pressure in the tank to equalize to manifold pressure witch would cause movement of the arm to lag behind boost somewhat. also if you use the ram to pull the arm to open the VGT instead of pushing and had a bit of slop in the linkage you could have a small electrically operated plunger, paralleled a small sillinoid valve in the air line from the tank to the ram to cut off air pressure completely, with a switch in the cab, on the opposite side of the arm past the shaft that controls the vains to push the VGT closed that would allow the exhaust brake function to work. Of course ive never seen one of these turbos in person so most likely none of this will work but if it does i got a couple hundred I'd invest into putting this thing into production.

 

recklesskelly, I haven't seen one either so thoughts remain thoughts. I was pondering how to incorporate drive pressure in to the controlling equation, though our basic principles are similar.
