Got Bored now what?

Yesterday evening I got bored with t.v.. I go to the shop and dig out the spare pump I have. Cleaned it up and disassembled it. Found a broke plunger spring but that's about it. Looking at this pile of parts and got to thinking what will make this mess better internally. Volumes of info externally but not so much internally. Is it a secret?!?!?!!. Then the thought turned to maybe guys don't want to take a chance of screwing up something and can't get to work on Monday. Ok guys that have pump knowledge! IF you could "no holds barred" improve what internally? What would you modify? Alter? Try? Experiment on? Change? Ect!!!!. I think something is in the case can be improved. Throw your ideas, comments, wish list, thoughts, ect out here. I'm game to try something!!! It won't happen overnight but maybe an on going project, discussion, maybe just who knows!! Like I said it won't happen overnight-for some reason work n money get in the way!! I also have a complete spare I/c running spare engine, maybe a test mule?? I found a co. That has an engine dyno that rents by the half/full day. Throw your thoughts, ideas, ect out here and let's see what comes up!!!!

We had a thread going on doing some stuff. It got a little off track but there are good ideas and some pictures. Jon had a thread on 1stgen.o r g with pictures of how he enlarged the inlet. Not too sure if he ever finished it though. I did some work to mine also but then got the deal of the century on a custom pump already built so the one I started messing with is still sitting a plastic tote in the back of the barn.
Maybe you can get some guys going again on doing some work. A little bird told me David is working on some cool ideas for the timing advance piston, maybe he will post some of what he has came up with?

Good luck

Ok I read your reply and your link to your old thread. It started out like gang busters then died on the vine. Sounds like Stomp has paid to play alot. But this was/is my idea of something to do! Brain storming the internals then trying something. Yes money is an object for us all but brainstorming cost no $$. Then as extra $$ "lol what's that" comes available tinker with the internals. You never know when someone stumbles onto the brass ring. Looks like just a very few are willing to try. But keep throwing out ideas and thoughts as time permits. Me being new extremely green I'm way behind. Thanks!!

Stomp/Jeremy has paid, but to be on top it costs money. But to that did you notice his post of him having nothing done inside his pump short of Brian's 14 mm H&R? Maybe not much to gain playing around in there? Now if the timing advance piston that is being worked on by David and another guy ends up working then big gains could be in the near future for our little rotary pumps.

To me this is all interesting. Stomp seemed to be involved in his truck rather than paying someone to just build things for it. I noticed that the real world is different than the laboratory, what he got on a pump stand was different than what he got on the street somewhat. Keep it coming and over time maybe the ve will give up it's secrets! Thanks for the input!! Btw how does the timing work in these pumps? The ksb advances when cold correct? After warm up how does it work?? Fuel pressure??

Internal case pressure increases/decreases with RPM from the vein-type pump in the nose of the injection pump. As pressure reaches whatever number, the control valve opens and that pressurized fuel works its way down to the advanced piston and rotates the roller housing to advance injection timing. The technical term for all this is Dynamic Timing.

Subscribing since ya-all have been talking about me. Is there gains to be made by modifying the insides of the VE? Probably, but I dont think you are going to gain a substantial amount of fuel.

Good discussion regardless.

Stomp how's the new build coming along? As I understood it you were getting close to stabbing the new engine and going for broke. Any truth to that and you and Ponic get one of them pumps apart to play with?

He said nothing but good about you though. I've read till my eyes water on this stuff and enjoy it. What's up in your world of 1st genning. I read you were building a new power plant for your ride, any news? From what I gather on here your well liked and respected. Throw some news out to give everyone an update on your hotrod!! Yea anything you can share or willing to share will be appreciated by all. Thanks for joining in!!

Nothing else beyond what you read on 1stgen. I am not using the case with the 3/8" fuel inlet as I am trying to obtain the money for a shop to build a custom vane pump.

The modded 12mm head will be put into my truck that is being lightened, dropped, and turned race. Plan is to take a weekend after those changes and get a new base line. Then depending on the clutch, adding a ceramic disk. Then the modded head.

Jeremy (Stomp) took out the rear main bearing on the freshly built motor. All with it only mildly tuned. Out it came, again. IIRC, he had to ditch the crank that was in it and get another and obviously, new bearings. I think he's got it about finished and back in by now.

Ok I read the post of the guy that laid down 430 hp?? With stock injectors. I don't doubt this because I've been around long enough to know on any given day anything can happen. My question is where he stated that the AFC foot was ground, what has been done? What does it do? Is there any performance gain? I know this didn't get him to the big number but it MAY have given up a few ponies!
