by opening a can of worms do you mean blowing up your 600,000 mile transmission? Adding that converter will put alot more stress on your tranny.

it would depend on what is bad and what parts you want to put back in it. To build it stout i would say at least 1200 plus a good converter of your choice.

Who is good at rebuilding them? I think jasper wanted $2500 for a rebuilt.

find a tranny shop you can trust around you.I would not go with a jasper unit, i have heard to many horror story's. If you have the abality drop the tranny yourself and take it to a shop to get rebuilt. It will cut down on labor cost.

Does that include a converter? Remember you have a non lock up, tranny, they are way cheaper to rebuild.

If I can remember correctly, Project "Rustbucket" in Diesel Power had it's trans rebuild to stock specs for around $800. I wouldn't rebuild it back to stock specs, but there is no way I would pay $2500 to rebuild a non lockup 727.

You might be able to get a 47RH rebuilt pretty good for that amount of green.

What would be worth the time and money? And what is involved into upgrading to the 47RH? What is the 47RH compared to the 727?

The 47RH is found on the '94 and '95 second gens. It has overdrive and lockup, so it is a huge improvement over our trannies. There is also a lot more aftermarket support for the 47RH, and if built properly, it will last a long, long time, especially against a little VE. The mighty P-Pumps have them, so our little rotary pump won't hurt it one bit.

As far as if it is worth it or now, well you would get a whole lot better mileage, and if you tow an overdrive and lockup would help a lot.

I don't remember off the top of my head, but if you use the search feature, I'm sure it will help you.

I can get a list for you tomorrow, or maybe find a link to a thread about the swap.

How will it do with your 3.07 gears? Well, you will go real fast!

pretty much it, loosen the converter to flex plate bolts then the bellhousing bolts. Get a good transmission jack

not really, most of the part are interchangeable. a 47rh is a 518 with lock-up. it would be more because he would have the OD section to rebuild. And yes a lock up converter is almost twice the price. not all 47rh's are the same, some had weaker planetarium but some did not. this would add an extra cost down the road.

starter, modify the trans mount, switch to control the Lockup, bellhousing adapter plate, flex plate would be good
