And THAT is exactly why we have "emissions inspections" today!
I was a teenager in the early 70's and we "ripped all that crap off" back then (and most of it helped, not hindered performance with the miserable LOW compression, and horrible fuel) (Like EGR) so "they" started making sure it was still there and functional.
That said (mostly tounge in cheek) I hope to God "they" NEVER start checking 75 and newer in Commiefornia. ("they" will) or my 72 big block Charger is screwed, (factory Sunroof, or not) I hate this State, however, it seems Colorado is WORSE!
If you pull it off SAVE IT!!!!

Douglas, when I went through rehab (Astronaut training) for alcohol several years ago, I think that SOME of those people had flammable "Pee"!

Yup, as a child of the 70's I have seen the "smog check" era progress from a nusiance, to a horrible threat (my Wife's 2001 Jeep JUST made it through this year) Currently in this State (Commiefornia) 76 and newer must be checked, however, that is subject to change at any moment. My previously protected fleet may be in jeapordy.
I was reading, with great interest, a thread here about a poor soul in Colorado that cannot pass an emissions test on a vehicle that NEVER had any emissions data before. "They" want to crush all the old cars (and Trucks) so VOTE!!!! and join the SEMA action network. Next to GUNS we are on the list of things to outlaw! Sorry, I will get off my soapbox.

Hey remember back in th 70's when CHP had those stupid Vehicle Inspections they would set up on cross intersections and literally trap you into a line and check your smog device, headlights, horn. (Like a sobriety checkpoint for your car.)

I always got caught when I went to lunch and was late getting back.

They would always try and get my Mustang for being too low, they didn't care if it came from the dealer that way.

Then if you passed you got a sticker on your windshield and you were safe for a couple more months.

Remember when you had to install the NOX Device that blocked off your vacuum advance and make your car run like crap.

Oh and then the fake gas shortage, the violence in the gas line when someone tried to cut infront of someone who had already been in line for a hour.

Odd Even Days.

The youngsters today have it so easy.

I still remember how upset I was when I had to pay $.70 for a gallon of gas while on vacation.

Jim

I avoid Kalifornia like the plague... have to drive 55 mph pulling a trailer, forget that. As soon as you cross the border it's like entering a foreign country.

The craziest thing I heard is the Kali DMV was going to start putting transponders in all the cars. When the check engine light comes on, sends a signal to a satellite. Satellite sends signal to DMV. DMV sends notice to owner saying you better get your vehicle into a mechanic NOW. Or face fines, license revocation, inability to register, etc. Talk about an invasion into and control of peoples lives.

The irony is... the roads are ours. We paid for them, they are ours. Period. AND... despite what anyone says, driving is a right. Old people, women, disabled, gay, minority... doesn't matter, anyone has the right to drive as long as they show the ability to do so. Until they screw up, then it no longer is. Just like anything else.

The ways and means that the powers that be have infringed upon our right to drive would make anyones blood boil. Just take vehicle insurance for instance. "They" are essentially saying, if you don't pay... you don't drive. It's extortion. We have to pay to drive on our own roads? Only because we let them make us. The insurance lobby hit them hard to make that happen. They got us all locked in to paying them to drive on our own roads.

Oh, and don't forget about the foreign ownership of "our" toll roads. Toll road, criminal in itself, owned and ran by a foreign company. Pffft.

How about the car rental companies that tried a fast one a few years back, putting GPS's in their rental cars. Then putting some fine print on the rental agreement saying if the GPS data shows that the driver was speeding at any point, then cha ching. A person would return the car expecting to pay 60 bucks for a day and the bill would be 270 bucks. "Oh, yea. GPS says you were doing 90 mph from Spokane to Ellensburg. That'll be a 210 dollar surcharge.".... that didn't last long. People were going ape.

I guess I have nothing left to complain about at this moment, thanks.

I'm supposed to hit a buddy's wedding in commiefornia-cation, but I get nervous about driving my truck down there from Idaho....I don't mind northern California at all, that's like a foreign country in itself from so-cal....the thing that cracks me up is all the California people I know that moved up here, when I pull up to the local coffee shop in my loud beastly truck, they just stare at me in disgust....seriously, and get this, one of em' smugly asks me, "so i bet that "thing" gets like, 8 miles to the gallon right?" I just smile and say, "nope more like 20 miles to the gallon." His response:"oh....really? No way. I can't believe that."
Then I see him get in his Escalade....
Infecting my state.....God is great, 1rst gens are good, most Californians are craazy....

Yeah, last I checked, not a lot of Priuses or smart cars pulling around heavy duty trailers, or loads of wood, debris, whatever your cup of tea is....all while maintaining around 20 mpg.....
