Glad I have my first Gen.

I met a guy yesterday and I saw that he had a ford "king ranch" that was only a couple of years old.

Says he loves the truck except for one major problem that it has. For the life of me, I didn't know what he could have meant, when he opened up his fuel tank cover, and right before my eyes, I saw two filler caps.. One for diesel and one for urea.... or "synthetic horse pee" as he called it. I started laughing.

He went on to say that his "horse driven diesel" required a refill of this additive at a minimum every 5k miles. He said it wasn't cheap either and that if he didn't keep filling this "second fill tank of synthetic horse pee" that the truck would eventually shut itself down and stop running until someone came along and peed in his tank again... such as a guy with a really big horse, such as the long ranger or roy rogers.

I just was beside myself. I couldn't stop laughing inside... and yet, at the same time I thought ..... how stupid we are as a society to allow this to happen, without some kind of rebelling.... such as not buying a new truck..

So... point being.... I love my 92 w250. and I'm going to keep it going for as long as I possibly can..... and I know I'm never putting any horse pee into it for as long as I live....

I have given a lot of thought about how to defeat that system( until I saw how you had to raise the cab for some service anyway). I wonder if you could take the discharge off the exhaust and stick it back into the tank. Then it would never get empty Ov course I suspect that somehow the truck would know and we'd be back where we started
cheers,
Douglas

I think I would rather have urea injection over the diesel particulate filter though.

Urea seems to be a better solution for the Peterbilts we have at my work.

I heard they will only go 4 mph if you run them out of DEF (urea) though.

Get a custom tune and rip all that crap out and never have to deal with any of it. expensive but adds alot of power and less hassle

I'll have to agree. DEF is the best thing to come along so far in the emission compliant diesels. I don't know about anyone else, but breathing clean air is pretty nice. And honestly, is it really that hard spending 5 minutes every 5k miles, (if it is that), to fill up the tank.

Urea is simple fertalizer. Farmers have used it for decades. Its well worth $6 a gallon to fill that extra tank every 5-7k miles and get 20mpg, versus no urea and getting 14mpg with constant regen cycles.

I'm still not a fan of it either way and IF I go thru with the Denali Dmax, the first things to go will be DPF, Urea, EGR, and crank vent.

Still, going from the fuel sucking 6.4L to the Ford designed 6.7L that sips fuel at 20+mpg, urea is a big plus. I'm no ford fan, but they did a great job with the arcitecture of the new 6.7L. I have a feeling in the next few years there will be 1,000+hp 6.7L's everywhere. The engine is that well built and strong.

I bet if we put horse pee in our tanks we could probably burn it.

Kidneys have not yet evolved that are capable of delivering flamable output.

TRUE, just look at the Navy incident on the Forestall. Spray water on burning magnesium landing gear and watch the water turn into an instant bomb!!!

Now we've learned to just shove burning planes off the deck with the tuggers.

Or do like me and stay away from the ships.

Just wait, the government will regulate our vehicles someday....something as simple an efficient as the 12 valve cummins won't get away forever unless the insanity gets stopped somehow.....somehow history always repeats itself....it'll be a noise issue or they leak a little, something absurd.....

Urea is what you feed cows, not trucks
