Getting 300hp From a '93 W250 w/B 5.9???

Hey, my dad just got a great deal on, and bought a '93 model Dodge Club Cab Dually 2wd, and after seeing the power mine is putting out, wants to know what all he would have to do to get about 300hp out of his. He test drove a new '05 610 5.9, and said he would like to have about the same amount of power, maybe a little more. I told him it should be pretty easy, but I dont know a whole lot about the 1st gen's, so I thought to ask here. I do know that he would be getting more tq than a new CR 5.9 at the same hp lev. and tht is what he wants, cause he is getting a 30ft 5er to tow along.

Posting this over in the 1st gen section would probably get more attention from the experts.

But, getting 300 hp out of it isn't hard to do. Alittle more info would be helpful, particularly what kind of transmission. The auto would need some attention to put 300hp out to the wheels.

My friend dynoed his 93 5spd the other day. All he has is a 3200 governor spring, and the pump is turned up. He put down 233hp at the rear wheels. I'd say with a set of injectors it would break 300.

Check out all the hints and tips in this thread
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=102027

First thing should be a set of gauges, Exhaust temperature at the min.

A set of injectors, Bosch 190's seem to be a favorite for towing, POD's for playing and Dynomite Diesel has some new options for firsts gens.

Pump tweaks, bump the timing, install a 3200 rpm governer spring, etc.

Compressor upgrades might be necessary to keep the egt's somewhat under control.

Dynomite Diesel has some nice sticks (not to much smoke). Bulldog +50hp are a good choice. PODs lots of smoke. HX35 or HTB series turbo from www.htturbo.com are a good choice. Old Smokey fuel pin. Open air filter and a good open exhaust. You'll be putting down more that 300hp

Wow, I guess it is true all you need is a screwdriver and a couple wrenches to turn these things up . Somebody told me about going to a smaller exhaust housing??? Looks like all this can be done pretty cheap.

You can get pretty close to 300 at the rear wheels for cheap. Using that power to tow a 30' fiver is another matter. Auto or manual? If it's an auto, some bucks will need to be spent there in order to get that power to the ground. If it's a manual that's in good shape, it will hold 300 towing HP provided an operator with his head on straight. As for the exhaust housing, it's a toss-up at the 300hp mark...I'd be inclined to want a 16cm for a tow rig that sees highway miles...others who tow will chime in. Mine's just a play truck

You can look at my sig. 321hp 866tq. These tq numbers might change your mind about the first gen's. they will lay down the power.

I'm just guessing but if someone spent the time to install the upgraded nv4500 in that truck, some of the mods may already be done.

Yeh I think so cause it did come from a Freightliner branch manager. My dad was there looking at getting a new OTR tractor and noticed a "For Sale" sign on the truck and when the salesman said he wanted $6500, my dad immediatley went to the bank to get the $$$. Paid 6k total for it. I'll have to get with the guy who sold it, and ask if he done anything other than the tranny swap. My dad did tell me he mentioned that the stock 1 went out at about 170K mi. and he just replaced it with an NV4500 from a "95 model. It now has 187k mi. so who knows. But knowing how those OTR diesel shops are, he may have had some "free" hp upgrades done to it. I have a pic of it in my gallery, and will post as soon as it's approved.
